GAIA Climate is seeking a Senior Climate Risk and ESG Specialist to join our growing team. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
· Lead business development for international and regional assignments in climate risk management, ESG integration, and disclosure—identifying opportunities, preparing technical and financial proposals, and building strategic partnerships with donors and institutional clients.
· Translate client needs into actionable projects, designing robust methodologies for climate risk assessment, portfolio stress-testing, TCFD-aligned disclosure, and ESG strategy development across sectors such as banking, energy, and infrastructure.
· Oversee multi-country expert teams, ensuring effective coordination, technical consistency, and timely delivery of high-quality outputs.
· Stay abreast of global frameworks and standards (e.g., TCFD, NGFS, ISSB, EU Taxonomy, CSRD, and Paris Agreement alignment tools), integrating the latest methodologies and disclosure requirements into project design and execution.
· Serve as a principal point of contact for clients, project owners, and partners, ensuring transparent communication, problem-solving, and client satisfaction throughout project implementation.
· Mentor and develop junior experts, building team capacity in climate risk analytics, ESG advisory, and sustainable finance.
· Strengthen relationships with development partners, financial institutions, and private-sector stakeholders to enhance the firm’s network and visibility in the international climate finance and ESG advisory landscape.
KEY QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Environmental Sciences, Environmental or Energy Engineering, Economics, or another sustainability-related discipline.
Experience: Minimum 6–8 years of professional experience in GHG estimation, climate risk management, ESG integration, and disclosure.
Technical Competence:
· Proven expertise in GHG accounting and verification (ISO 14064, GHG Protocol, IPCC Guidelines).
· Familiarity with international climate and sustainability frameworks including CDP, SASB, TCFD/TSRS, CSRD, and CBAM.
· Experience in developing climate risk assessment methodologies and disclosure tools for public and private clients.
Networks: Established professional network within climate finance, ESG, or sustainability domains, including partnerships with international organizations, development banks, and corporates.
Communication & Leadership:
· Excellent written and spoken English; proficiency in additional languages is an asset.
· Strong ability to prepare technical presentations, deliver trainings, and manage large datasets.
· Effective communicator and team leader, with proven experience engaging international clients and diverse stakeholders.
· Professional Attributes: Highly organized, detail-oriented, and analytical, with a diligent and collaborative approach to written, visual, and numerical work.
