To strengthen our capacities in the field of forest monitoring at our headquarters in Munich, we are now looking for a motivated
Project Manager Remote Sensing/GIS for Development Cooperation
This is an opportunity for experienced Project Manager in Remote Sensing/GIS to support our projects related to Earth Observation (EO)-based forest and natural resources monitoring management; there is a special focus on climate change, forest, agriculture and land use monitoring in developing countries. Additional tasks will focus on supporting proposal management activities and/or new projects acquisition to advance the business in these domains.
Your tasks:
- Project Management of Technical Assistance and Knowledge Transfer projects in developing countries with special focus on Africa; this requires management and oversight on all GAF activities as well as Consortium partner tasks
- Coordination of other GAF projects / project tasks implementation in the Earth Observation applications for forest, agriculture and land use mapping domain in close cooperation with international partner companies and the customer(s)
- Technical and organizational interfacing with multi-disciplinary project teams and production units
- Regular reporting of project results internally for planning internal resources and financial performance and towards the customer by means of progress reports and technical deliverables
- Presentation of technical results to clients, counterparts in developing countries and managing expectations from clients and end users
- Support the Business Development and Sales team in new acquisitions of upcoming Earth Observation for forest/land use assessment opportunities
- Customer care and opportunity development
- Ready to travel, also to international destinations (20%)
Requirements:
- Educational background: Minimum M.Sc. in geography, agriculture, ecology, forestry, or similar
- Background in remote sensing/GIS, image processing / agriculture/forest and land cover classification technical experience
- Minimum 10 years relevant working experience (including minimum 5-8 years Project Management experience with high budget, multi-stakeholder projects)
- Demonstrated experience and achievements in supporting technical production of Machine Learning based workflows for Climate Smart Agriculture, large area land use and forest mapping as well as derivation of spatial statistics at national and sub-national level. This includes experience in EO-based Product validation / thematic accuracy assessment / geo-statistics
- Understanding of network architectures, hardware procurement and installation requirements as well management of local logistics
- Knowledge of programming tools and algorithm development to oversee and coordinate developers work
- Familiar with standard Overseas Development Aid projects approaches and their Monitoring and Evaluation: Logical Framework, Theory of Change, impact assessment …
- Experience working on site and from conducted field work is preferred
- Good reporting and communication skills
- Autonomous and self-responsible working as well as team working skills
- Excellent command of English and French (both C1-C2 according to CEFR)
- Report writing experience and skills (English, French) required
- Capacity to work in a multi-disciplinary team, and have experience with communicating and co-ordinating activities with developing country partners

Full-time position (40 hours per week), starting at the earliest possible date
Initially limited to two years, with a subsequent option for a permanent contract
