Mechanical Engineer – MEP Consulting

Are you an experienced Mechanical Engineer looking for an opportunity to take ownership of complex projects, mentor developing engineers, and build lasting client relationships?

A respected and growing engineering firm is seeking a Mechanical Engineer with 5+ years of experience to join its team. This role offers the opportunity to lead the design of mechanical systems across a diverse portfolio of projects while collaborating with talented professionals in a supportive, technically driven environment.

From HVAC and plumbing to specialized building systems, you'll play a key role in delivering innovative, energy-efficient, and constructible engineering solutions from concept through construction.

What You'll Do

  • Lead the analysis, design, and review of mechanical systems, including HVAC, plumbing, control systems, medical gas, process piping, and fire protection.
  • Develop and review construction documents, drawings, specifications, technical reports, and cost estimates.
  • Apply industry standards, building codes, and constructability principles to deliver high-quality engineering solutions.
  • Utilize Revit/BIM, AutoCAD, Trane TRACE, Carrier HAP, and other industry-standard engineering tools.
  • Perform field surveys, energy audits, energy modeling, life-cycle cost analyses, and cost estimating.
  • Provide construction administration services, including submittal reviews, RFIs, site observations, and design modifications.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships while serving as a trusted technical resource.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate designs, resolve challenges, and keep projects on track.
  • Mentor junior engineers and designers while supporting their professional development.
  • Manage multiple assignments, project schedules, budgets, and quality standards.

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 5+ years of mechanical engineering experience, preferably in an MEP consulting environment.
  • Strong understanding of HVAC systems, building mechanical systems, applicable codes, and engineering design practices.
  • Experience with mechanical design software, including Revit/BIM, AutoCAD, and HVAC load calculation tools.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and coordinate effectively with clients, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong technical communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills.
  • A commitment to delivering high-quality work and building long-term professional relationships.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or commitment to obtaining licensure within 12 months.
  • LEED AP accreditation or equivalent sustainability credentials.
  • Experience mentoring junior staff and leading mechanical design assignments.

Work Environment & Schedule

  • Employment Type: Full-time, 40-hour workweek.
  • Schedule: Flexible start time between 7:00 AM and 9:00 AM, coordinated around core collaboration hours of 9:00 AM–3:00 PM.
  • Work Setting: Primarily office-based, with regular site visits and client meetings.
  • Travel: Regional day trips throughout the Mid-Atlantic, with occasional overnight and air travel.
  • Additional Requirements: Valid driver's license, ability to pass a background check, and eligibility to obtain security clearance for certain client and government projects. Must be authorized to work in the United States.
