Lead Engineer - Thermal Systems
Lead Engineer – Thermal Systems
FutureMotiv is seeking an engineer with experience in thermal systems development to support programmes involving electrified powertrains, battery systems and high-power energy storage applications.
Working directly with OEM and industrial customers, the role will involve development of thermal management solutions from concept through validation, combining simulation, system integration, supplier engagement and vehicle or equipment-level testing.
This is a hands-on engineering position suited to someone who enjoys solving practical integration and performance challenges rather than managing large teams.

Responsibilities
- Develop thermal management architectures for battery systems, power electronics, electric drivetrains and associated cooling systems.
- Create and maintain 1D simulation models to assess coolant circuit performance, heat rejection requirements, thermal capacity and system efficiency.
- Support the sizing and detail design of pumps, heat exchangers, chillers, valves, pipework and associated thermal system components.
- Interpret targeted CFD analysis to investigate airflow behaviour, cooling performance limitations, thermal gradients and localised hot spots.
- Support optimisation of cooling package layouts and thermal system performance.
- Develop cooling circuit layouts and package studies including routing of hoses, pipework, fittings, mounting brackets and support hardware.
- Resolve integration issues across battery systems, electrical systems, structures and powertrain installations.
- Support design reviews, engineering release activities and supplier maturity assessments.
- Define validation plans and support environmental, durability and thermal performance testing.
- Investigate failures, identify root causes and implement corrective engineering actions.
- Present technical recommendations directly to customers and programme stakeholders.
- Degree qualified engineer in Mechanical, Automotive, Aerospace or related discipline.
- Experience developing cooling or thermal management systems within automotive, off-highway, rail, aerospace, defence, industrial equipment or power generation sectors.
- Experience with 1D simulation tools such as GT-SUITE, Simcenter Amesim or equivalent.
- Experience interpreting CFD outputs and applying findings to engineering design decisions.
- Experience developing and integrating production hardware rather than purely analytical or research activities.
- Familiarity with DVP&R, DFMEA and life-cycle product development processes.
