We are looking for someone to join our purpose-led high-growth scale-up in a Head of Data position. This is a newly created role and greenfield opportunity to build and shape the entire data function for a growing company. And the best bit, you’ll get to work with some fantastic work mates!

About The Role

As our first Head of Data, you'll have significant autonomy to define strategy, choose technologies, and build a high-performing team. You'll be the go-to data expert, directly influencing business strategy and outcomes, and will play a pivotal role in scaling our data capabilities and mentoring the next generation of data professionals.

This role is ideal for a data visionary who thrives on shaping strategy and communication, whilst being hands-on and diving deep into technical execution.

Strategic Leadership & Vision
  • Lead and champion Future Group's data strategy, aligning it to business goals
  • Identify high-impact data opportunities, shape roadmaps, and explore emerging technologies to deliver measurable business value through innovative, forward-thinking solutions.
Pragmatic Data Governance & Compliance
  • Establish and lead fit-for-purpose data governance, ensuring data quality, integrity, privacy, security, and regulatory compliance (e.g., APRA, AML/KYC) within a financial services context.
  • Oversee metadata management and data lineage to ensure traceability, auditability, and ethical handling of data across the business.
Driving Analytics & Actionable Insights
  • Lead the delivery of actionable insights through reporting, dashboarding, and advanced analytics (including machine learning) to drive strategic and operational decision-making.
  • Define and track KPIs to clearly demonstrate the business value of data initiatives and foster a culture of data-informed performance.
Empowering Business Units with Data-Driven Insights
  • Act as a strategic partner to business units, translating their needs into actionable analytical solutions and embedding data into day-to-day decision-making.
  • Guide the development of targeted insights, reporting, and self-service analytics to drive value across departments and foster a collaborative, data-informed culture.
Stakeholder Management & Business Partnership
  • Build strong relationships across the business, translating complex data needs into clear solutions and influencing strategic decisions.
  • Act as a key advocate for data, effectively communicating its value and fostering cross-functional collaboration.
Technology & Vendor Oversight
  • Oversee data tech stack selection and vendor management to ensure scalable, cost-effective solutions aligned with business strategy.
  • Manage the team’s budget and stay across emerging technologies relevant to financial services.
Technical Strategy & Oversight
  • Provide strategic oversight of data architecture and infrastructure, ensuring solutions are scalable, performant, and future-ready.
  • Support technical leadership by enabling the team and championing best practices across engineering and delivery.
Team Leadership, Mentorship & Capability Uplift
  • Build and develop a high-performing data team, with a strong focus on mentoring junior engineers and analysts.
  • Foster a data-literate, insight-driven culture and shape the future growth of the data function.

We're looking for someone who

  • Believes in Future Group’s mission and has a passion for moving Australia’s money out of fossil-fuels and into renewable energy
  • Believes in using the power of money to build a sustainable and equitable world
  • Has proven experience in data management leadership roles, with the ability to lead, mentor, and grow junior technical team members.
  • Is a strategic thinker with a pragmatic, results-oriented approach, equally comfortable shaping big picture strategy or rolling up their sleeves in execution mode
  • Communicates clearly and persuasively with both technical and non-technical audiences, and can confidently navigate senior stakeholder conversations.
  • Has demonstrated experience in establishing and managing robust, fit-for-purpose data governance frameworks.
  • Brings s a strong understanding of data security principles and compliance requirements relevant to financial services (e.g. ISO 27001, CPS 234, AML/KYC-related data requirements).
Essential Hands-on Expertise:
  • Data architecture design and data modelling (relational, dimensional), and building scalable data pipelines (ETL/ELT).
  • Expert SQL and strong experience with Python (or similar scripting language) for data manipulation and automation.
  • Demonstrable experience with data warehousing solutions (e.g. Databricks) and data lake concepts/technologies.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (ideally AWS, Azure) and their associated data services.
  • Familiarity with BI and data visualisation tools (e.g. Power BI)
Some nice-to-haves but are not essential are:
  • Experience in the financial services industry
