FFA is in an exciting growth phase, working to expand its reach, increase engagement, and build a financially sustainable model. As a key member of the Executive Team, the CFO will play a crucial role in shaping FFA’s long-term strategic direction while ensuring financial sustainability.


Role Overview

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is responsible for overseeing FFA’s financial health, funding strategies, and long-term sustainability. Beyond managing finances, the CFO is a core member of the Executive Team, contributing to high-level decision-making, strategic planning, and the overall direction of the organisation.


This role requires a strategic, analytical, and proactive financial leader who understands the challenges and opportunities within the not-for-profit and youth advocacy space. Importantly, you will have the full support of the other members of the executive team, particularly the CEO and COO to help you fulfil your responsibilities. There is also scope to build out a finance team to assist with smaller administrative tasks.


All roles at FFA are currently unpaid, volunteer opportunities and have flexible time commitment options.


Key Responsibilities

1. Strategic Leadership & Executive Decision-Making

Collaborate with the CEO, COO, CMO, and Executive Team to define and refine FFA’s core strategic direction.

Provide financial insights and risk assessments to support decision-making on key initiatives, partnerships, and expansion plans.

Help develop FFA’s long-term vision, ensuring financial sustainability is embedded into strategic growth.

Contribute to the development of FFA’s engagement, advocacy, and digital platform strategies (e.g., Future Connect, Plugged-In, Podium).


2. Financial Strategy & Sustainability

Develop and implement FFA’s financial strategy, ensuring sustainable resource management.

Align financial planning with FFA’s broader strategic goals, ensuring the organisation can scale effectively.

Work closely with the CEO and Advisory Board to identify key funding opportunities and financial growth areas.


3. Budgeting, Financial Planning & Compliance

Oversee the development and management of FFA’s annual budget.

Ensure all financial activities comply with governance and regulatory requirements for not-for-profits.

Provide regular financial reporting to the Board, including key insights, risks, and recommendations.

Work with the COO to develop cost-effective operational strategies that maximise impact while maintaining financial stability.


4. Fundraising & Revenue Generation

Identify and pursue funding opportunities, including grants, sponsorships, and philanthropic partnerships.

Develop and implement strategies to diversify revenue streams, ensuring long-term financial stability.

Collaborate with the Partnerships Team to secure corporate sponsors and in-kind support.

Support the creation of grant proposals and funding applications, ensuring strong financial justifications.


5. Financial Operations & Resource Management

Establish and maintain efficient financial systems, including expense tracking, banking, and reporting.

Ensure responsible resource allocation to maximise impact while maintaining financial sustainability.

Implement best practices for cost control, financial efficiency, and internal financial policies.


6. Governance, Risk Management & Compliance

With the finance team, ensure compliance with financial reporting obligations, tax requirements, and not-for-profit governance standards.

Develop and maintain financial policies and internal controls to safeguard FFA’s assets.

Work closely with the Executive and Board to develop governance policies and risk management frameworks.
