Role Description

Form Energy is hiring a Mechanical Reliability Engineer on the Design for Reliability Team to conduct internal testing that will be critical to make our products more robust and reliable. As part of the Reliability team, you will operate and take ownership of reliability testing on our cell mechanicals from material, component, and sub-scale cells. You will ideate, design, develop, and build custom test fixturing to execute new ways to test our products. This role will require hands-on work in our machine shops, labs, and ability to collaborate with a cross functional team to ensure high quality testing and results.

This role will be located at Form Factory 1 in Weirton, WV, which is just a short drive outside of Pittsburgh, PA. Relocation assistance is available.

What you'll do:

  • Bring new, custom test fixtures to life by designing with CAD, fabricating in our machine shops, and validating fixtures via functional testing

  • Ideate novel ways to test polymers, rubbers, metals, adhesives, and our product's subcomponents using mechanical testing and electrochemistry

  • Perform Reliability test activities which include handling chemicals, sample preparation, and using off-the-shelf test equipment

  • Develop detailed test plans, operate and monitor test status, troubleshoot test issues, and perform data analysis

  • Own technical communications with the broader engineering team regarding test data, eventually becoming an expert in Reliability testing

  • Organize and maintain cleanliness of Reliability lab spaces, perform regular equipment maintenance, and be a champion for safety in the lab

What you'll bring:

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field and 2+ years of industry experience in mechanical design, prototyping, manufacturing or testing

  • Proficiency in 3D CAD and 2D drafting using SolidWorks or a similar program

  • Experience with building in a machine shop setting, 3D printing, prototyping and assembly

  • Engineering mindset with finding ways to test and improve product reliability, interest to learn why and how materials fail under mechanical stresses and chemical degradation

  • Detail oriented, a proactive self starter with excellent communication and organizational skills

  • Knowledgeable or able to learn and operate test incubators, thermal chambers, battery testing equipment, and other lab test equipment as needed
