Role Description
We’re looking for Senior and Staff Manufacturing Test Engineers who are looking to amplify their impact and contribute to a brand-new Manufacturing Test organization. This person will be responsible for engineering all aspects of our manufacturing test ecosystem, including End of Life, Functional, Hipot, and Resistance testing. Your work starts with a two-way conversation with our design engineers to both inform their designs (DFT) and get a jump start on developing the test equipment and processes. From there, your work will range from participating in hands-on trial builds at a prototype/pilot level up to delivering high-speed, high-volume solutions at new production facilities. You will work with design and manufacturing engineers, supply chain, operations, safety, facilities, line operators, and a host of other teams and outside suppliers and consultants.
As we manufacture our products for the first time, expect a slew of surprise issues that will need rapid root cause investigation and resolution demanding critical thinking, persistence, and collaboration. It’s going to be an exciting ride building something from nothing, and we hope you join us making giant batteries to tackle climate change!
This opportunity is based out of Form Factory 1 in Weirton, WV, a short drive from Pittsburgh, PA. Relocation assistance is available.
What You’ll Do:
Own the development, build or purchase, and deployment of manufacturing test workstations and equipment ranging from initial manual bench-top stations to fully automated and integrated systems on the production line
Provide Design for Test feedback to the engineering team, working closely with them throughout the development process
Design and document robust test processes capable of a high level of safety and uptime
Perform Gage R&R studies to validate new test processes
Assist in the debug and resolution of time-sensitive issues with manufacturing test equipment and processes as they arise
Train technicians and associates on new manufacturing test equipment and processes
Work with a diversity of teams inside and outside the company to achieve overall manufacturing success
What You’ll Bring:
5+ years of manufacturing test experience, ideally in an electro-mechanical, automotive, or battery assembly environment
Direct experience with End of Line, Functional, Hipot, and/or Resistance Testing
Expertise with the software and programming languages inherent to test including Python and NI Labview
Expertise in data collection and data management
Competence and familiarity with an array of sensors and transducers including hall effect, temperature, position, pressure, and force
Experience purchasing and setting up automated manufacturing test equipment
Experience working with design engineers and providing DFT feedback
Readiness to perform hands-on build and test of workstations and equipment
Excellent spoken and written communication skills and readiness to interact with a wide range of other professionals and suppliers
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering; More advanced degrees are a plus but not required
Experience with other areas of manufacturing test and/or Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) is a plus but not required
Direct battery testing is a plus
