WE HAVE ONE ROSTER SPOT. IT IS A STARTING ONE.

Senior Consultant, Climate and Sustainability | Foresight | Melbourne

The NBA and WNBA trades and drafting have been fast-paced, similar to climate and sustainability talent movement in Australia! The most news-worthy was the decision by LeBron James last week on what he called his last decision. Twenty-fourth season, four franchises, every suitor in the league on the phone: Golden State, Miami, Minnesota, Cleveland. He signed with Philadelphia for two years and about $8 million, which, for a player of his standing, is closer to a rounding error than a pay day.

He did not chase the money. He did not chase the market. He looked at the roster he would be standing next to, Embiid, Maxey, Brown, Edgecombe, and picked the only thing that still mattered to him: a real chance to win something.

That is the decision we are asking you to make.

/01 THE FRANCHISE

Foresight is a specialist climate change and sustainability consultancy, working with businesses and governments across the Australian economy to cut through the complexity of climate change and sustainability.

Our court covers climate risk, climate change advisory, sustainability advisory, sustainability assurance, and nature and biodiversity: transition plans, actionable roadmaps, and confidence in sustainability disclosure.

We were founded to create real impact, do the best work, and how we play matters as much as the result. We are creative on complex problems, authentic and accountable in every interaction, and inclusive in how we listen. We bring the rigour of the Big Four to a boutique setting, and we expect the same standards of integrity and judgement from everyone who suits up.

We are not the biggest franchise on your shortlist. We are the one where your minutes count.

/02 THE PLAYER WE ARE DRAFTING

You are a structured thinker with strong analytical instincts. You do not just put up numbers in the background: you are passionate about turning data into insight that a board can act on. You thrive in complexity, you hold your own work to a high standard, and you want what you do to matter to the climate transition.

You want the ball in the fourth quarter.

/03 YOUR MINUTES

  • Own a workstream inside a broader client engagement, end to end, from data gathering to delivering the insight.
  • Run rigorous quantitative and qualitative analysis to test hypotheses and solve complex, ambiguous business problems.
  • Interview client stakeholders and industry experts to get the knowledge that is not in the dataset.
  • Synthesise complex data into clear, compelling and actionable material for senior leadership.
  • Work directly with our directors and with clients. Short roster, no layers, no bench to hide on.
  • Contribute to our methodologies and intellectual property, and help shape what Foresight does next.
  • Join a team that plays together, backs one another, and celebrates the shared result.

/04 THE COMBINE NUMBERS

These are the measurables. They are how we shortlist.

  • Experience: 2 to 3 years of professional experience in a consulting firm, in an analytical, strategic or financial capacity.
  • Education: a strong academic record. Degrees in quantitative disciplines (economics, engineering, mathematics, finance, science) are preferred, but all disciplines are welcome where analytical rigour can be demonstrated.
  • Problem-solving: demonstrated ability to break complex problems into structured components.
  • Technical skills: advanced Excel is non-negotiable. Familiarity with data visualisation or programming languages (Python, R, SQL) is a strong advantage.
  • Soft skills: exceptional written and verbal communication, and the ability to explain complex analytical concepts in plain language to a non-technical audience.

/05 THE HIGHLIGHT REEL

None of this is a dealbreaker. If the measurables fit, we still want to hear from you. But these are the tape that gets watched twice:

  • Time at a Big Four or global consulting firm (vis-avis Lakers, Boston!). Rigour gets built in plenty of places, so we care more about the capability than the logo, but that background will feel familiar here.
  • Depth in financial analysis and modelling: connecting climate data to financial performance, building climate risk into valuation models, and working with Bloomberg, Capital IQ or Refinitiv.
  • Depth in technical engineering modelling: energy systems, grid integration or industrial decarbonisation, including LCOE modelling and tools such as HOMER, PLEXOS, MATLAB or PyPSA.
  • Exposure to Australian climate disclosure standards (AASB S2 / ASRS, TCFD) and to the GHG Protocol or ISO 14064.
  • Sustainability and climate assurance experience.
  • A relevant postgraduate qualification, or a credential such as CA, CFA, Engineers Australia or CEnvP.
  • A track record in business development or thought leadership.

/06 WHY TAKE OUR OFFER

Philadelphia had not reached a conference final since 2001. It gave up Paul George and draft capital to get Jaylen Brown, then convinced the most scrutinised player in the sport to take a discount to join them. That is not a team coasting on history. That is a team building something and choosing exactly who it builds with.

We are doing the same thing, in a market where the rules changed the moment mandatory climate reporting arrived in Australia. The work is live, the standards are being written as we go, and the roster is still short enough that one signing changes the shape of it.

One spot. Send us your tape.
