REPORTING TO: Group HSQE Manager

Purpose of Role

To lead the organisation's environmental and ESG agenda, ensuring compliance, driving continuous improvement, and delivering the company's sustainability objectives.

Role Responsibilities

  • Provide expertise and support to the HSQE Team and site teams on all matters relating to environmental compliance, best practice and ESG.
  • Monitor emerging ESG legislation, sustainability standards and industry best practices, providing strategic recommendations to senior management to ensure continual compliance and leadership within the sector.
  • Maintain the company's environmental legal register, monitor compliance with Irish, UK and EU legislation, and advise management on regulatory changes.
  • Ensure site teams develop and implement project specific Environmental Management System and ESG plans for their projects and provide ongoing support on the maintenance of site Environmental plans and documentation.
  • Conduct environmental and ESG audits, perform desktop compliance reviews, participate in HSQE audits, and support the closeout of non-conformances
  • Environmental Management system and ESG. Be the main point of contact for all third parties i.e., stat bodies and accrediting bodies such as ISO for auditing and accreditation
  • Develop and delivery of Environmental and ESG training and communications (training presentations, briefings, toolbox talks, Q&A sessions, Lessons Learnt, social media posts, posters, guidance notes etc.)
  • Advise and guide others in completing Environmental/ESG sections of tender and pre-qual submissions for the Pre- Construction department. Ensure adequate resources are provided for in terms of project ESG requirements
  • Establish strong ESG data management processes and coordinate assurance activities to ensure reported information is accurate, complete, and reliable.
  • Provide ongoing reports on company KPI information for monthly Senior meetings and for the annual QHSE Management review meeting.
  • Manage ESG reporting, carbon reduction targets, and sustainability objectives, ensuring compliance witt regulatory and stakeholder requirements.
  • Lead compliance with CSRD and ESRS requirements, including double materiality assessments, stakeholder engagement, gap analysis, ESG data collection and annual sustainability disclosures.
  • Conducting full and thorough investigation of significant unplanned environmental events that occur on site
  • Lead the ESG Committee, driving governance, performance, and continuous improvement while coordinating meetings, maintaining records, and supporting effective decision-making on sustainability initiatives.
  • Lead engagement with clients, investors, supply chain partners, industry bodies and regulatory authorities on ESG matters and sustainability performance.
  • Work with procurement and operational teams to integrate ESG requirements into supplier selection, monitoring and performance evaluation processes.
  • Develop supplier engagement programmes to improve environmental, social and governance performance throughout the supply chain.
  • Ensure on site ESG initiatives are reviewed, instilled and equipment utilised for reuse on future projects
  • Attend industry events and educational forums to expand our knowledge and keep in line with ESG trends in the industry
  • Lead the development and implementation of carbon reduction strategies including Scope 1, Scope 2 and Scope 3 emissions management, reduction targets and decarbonisation initiatives.
  • Conduct benchmarking, follow trends, and provide best practices for ESG disclosures while identifying gaps and presenting solutions
  • Develop and maintain potential tools and mechanisms to evaluate, track and report on progress against company ESG goals.
  • Identify, monitor and report ESG-related risks and opportunities through the corporate risk management framework, ensuring mitigation measures are implemented and reviewed.
  • Support project teams in undertaking whole life carbon assessments and embodied carbon evaluations to inform sustainable design and procurement decisions.
  • Lead circular economy initiatives including waste reduction, material reuse, responsible sourcing and resource efficiency programmes to improve environmental performance.
  • Develop and implement biodiversity enhancement strategies, nature-based solutions and ecological protection measures across projects in accordance with company objectives and client requirements.
  • Assess and support reporting against the EU Taxonomy Regulation and other sustainable finance frameworks where required by customers, investors and stakeholders.
  • Assess and monitor climate related risks and opportunities affecting the business, projects and supply chain, ensuring alignment with climate adaptation and resilience requirements.

The Candidate

  • Third level qualification in EHS or a related discipline.
  • 5+ years’ experience working on large scale commercial/construction projects.
  • Strong understanding of ESG requirements and best practices.
  • Experience of managing ISO 14001 systems and sustainability reporting programmes.
  • Highly organised and capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Conscientious, highly focused and detail orientated.
  • Self-starter and the ability to build relationships with all stakeholders.
  • Full clean driver’s license preferable.
  • Excellent communication skills.
