REPORTING TO: ESG Lead

Purpose of Role

This will involve the day-to-day management of all environmental related activities compliance along with a series of environmental and sustainability-based projects.

Role Responsibilities

  • Conduct environmental inspections and audits across project sites to monitor compliance with environmental legislation, company procedures, and project-specific requirements.
  • Provide practical environmental advice and support to project teams, assisting in the implementation of environmental controls and best practices.
  • Compile, review, and update Environmental Management Plans (EMPs) and Waste Management Plans (WMPs) in line with project requirements and regulatory obligations.
  • Monitor environmental performance on projects, identifying risks, non-conformances, and opportunities for continual improvement.
  • Support site teams in achieving compliance with planning conditions, licences, permits, and client environmental requirements.
  • Undertake inspections relating to waste segregation, pollution prevention, water management, spill response, dust, noise, and biodiversity protection measures.
  • Assist in incident investigations, including environmental near misses, spills, and non-conformances, ensuring corrective actions are implemented.
  • Deliver environmental awareness and toolbox talks / Workshops to site personnel and contractors to promote good environmental practices.
  • Liaise with project stakeholders, subcontractors, regulators, and clients on environmental matters as required.
  • Maintain accurate environmental records, audit findings, inspection reports, waste documentation, and compliance trackers.
  • Support sustainability and waste reduction initiatives, promoting resource efficiency and environmental best practices across projects.
  • Assist in the preparation of reports, KPIs, and environmental performance data for internal and external reporting.
  • Ensuring compliance to regulatory licencing requirements.
  • Directing site activities towards achieving energy, carbon, water, and waste reduction targets, through measuring, analysis, and reporting programmes.
  • Capture, analysis and reporting of all relevant data relating to effluent, energy, water, waste, and sustainability.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to maintain environmental management and monitoring programmes;
  • Assist with the maintenance of ISO14001 Environmental Management System on site;
  • Complete site energy/environmental audits to identify opportunities for improvement and improve sites resilience to climate change.
  • Develop learning opportunities and training plans for staff and manage delivery of environmental weeks on site.
  • Liaise with the group environmental team on upcoming sustainability projects and strategies.
  • Develop and maintain company Environmental & Sustainability standards, policies, systems and programs applicable to our projects
  • Drive and lead site Environmental & Sustainability functions to align with corporate goals and develop programs and continuous improvement efforts
  • Provide Enviromental leadership and direction for management, professional, technical and support staff across the site
  • Ensure systems are in place to enable site to operate in legal and ethical compliance with regard to EHS issues
  • Promote employee awareness / training on matters of environment, health and safety
  • Other duties as assigned by senior management

The Candidate

  • Third level qualification in EHS or a related discipline.
  • 3+ years’ experience working on large scale commercial/construction projects.
  • Highly organised and capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Conscientious, highly focused and detail orientated.
  • Self-starter and the ability to build relationships with all stakeholders.
  • Full clean driver’s license preferable.
  • Excellent communication skills.
