Senior Business Development Manager
Are you a strategic leader who can translate complex maritime engineering into high-impact growth?
About Us
Floating Solutions Consulting (FSC) is an independent maritime engineering and naval architecture consultancy. We leverage our engineering expertise where it can make the greatest impact – on cost, risk, and environmental outcomes across the marine asset lifecycle. As a Climate Active carbon-neutral firm and a member of 1% for the Planet, we are driven by a long-term vision: a future where marine assets contribute to climate solutions and coexist in harmony with the planet.
We operate four key service streams:
- Hull integrity: We deliver risk-based hull integrity management – optimising inspections, structural assessments and repair strategies to reduce cost and operational risk.
- Marine energy & decarbonisation: We support low-carbon offshore projects through concept assessment, technology risk reviews and lifecycle strategies that reduce emissions and improve performance.
- Marine warranty: We provide independent engineering review and operational assurance to reduce marine operation risks and meet underwriter requirements.
- Naval architecture & project management: We deliver lifecycle naval architecture and project management, providing the expertise for reliable, compliant and efficient marine operations.
We have the technical expertise; now we are seeking a Strategic Growth Specialist to help us build the bridges to new markets and sectors.
About the Role
This is a high-autonomy, high-impact role suited to a strategic doer who is comfortable in a technical environment. You’ll work closely with the leadership group and our technical team to:
- Lead and shape our commercial growth strategy: Identify how our capabilities can solve real-world problems across the oil & gas, renewables, defence and commercial maritime sectors.
- Build the business development ‘engine’: Develop and maintain a coordinated BD workflow and pipeline that expands our hull integrity services into new markets, while advancing growth in marine energy, decarbonisation and marine warranty services.
- Translate technical value into compelling narratives: Collaborate with subject matter experts to develop and review proposals, articulating value clearly and credibly.
- Build trusted relationships: Serve as a warm and credible first point of contact for clients – locally and internationally – cultivating long‑term partnerships founded on trust.
About You
You will thrive in this role if you are:
- Technically curious – able to understand what we do and speak intelligently with clients about their challenges.
- A self-starter – energised by autonomy; able to create structure, drive momentum and deliver outcomes.
- Values-aligned – have a genuine interest in the energy transition, sustainability and meaningful impact.
You must bring substantial business development experience and a proven ability to win significant work.
An existing network in the oil & gas, renewables, defence or maritime sectors in Australia or overseas would be highly advantageous.
Experience in oil & gas, maritime, naval architecture, asset integrity, energy, renewables or related technical sectors would also be highly regarded.
Initial priorities
In your first 6 months you’ll work closely with our leadership team and technical experts to build strong foundations for long-term commercial growth:
1. Immerse and understand
Build a solid understanding of FSC’s services, case studies, commercial model and sector positioning so you can confidently link our expertise to our clients’ challenges.
2. Strategy and narrative
Co-develop FSC’s growth strategy across our four service streams, shaping clear and credible value propositions for our priority sectors.
3. Systems and pipeline foundations
Set up structured BD workflows and tools; begin building a short and medium term pipeline across the oil & gas, renewables, defence and commercial maritime sectors.
4. Proposal leadership
Identify high-value opportunities and lead at least one major proposal or tender, guiding the process from technical translation through to commercial review and submission of proposal to the client.
5. Relationship building
Build trusted relationships across our key markets, establishing yourself as a warm, credible first point of contact for both CEOs and technical experts alike.
