Job Title: Manufacturing Supervisor I

Reports To: Shift Manager

Job Status: Exempt (Salaried)

Basic Job Functions:

Supervises and lead manufacturing team to meet the shift goals in terms of Safety, Quality, Throughput, Controls and Cost. Ensure that the coater pit stops / target change and Submodule & Finishing activities are performed to the highest quality and acts as role model to the respective manufacturing team in the shift. Liaise with the related functional department for continuous improvement in the manufacturing operation.

Experience:

  • At least 3 years in a Manufacturing environment for a degree holder.
  • Minimum 5 years in a Manufacturing environment for a diploma holder.
  • Experience in electrical, mechanical and chemical industrial applications
  • Managed or participated in continuous improvement projects
  • Proven experience communicating a variety of personnel actions (e.g., employment, termination, performance and salary reviews, disciplinary actions, scheduling and/or approving OT)

Education:

  • Possess a Degree in any discipline. Candidate with a Technical Degree will have an added advantage.

Technical:

  • Demonstrate ability to analyze engineering and statistical data.
  • Good knowledge on Safety and Quality systems (ISO14000/ ISO9001/ Environmental policies ). Being a lead auditor in any of the systems is an added advantage.
  • Knowledgeable and able to conduct training in TOC. Acts as an advocate for the team and consistently promotes the theory.
  • Able to use all system tools effectively (HMI / Admin tools – Kronos / Concur / PR requisitions / 7 Steps problem solving tool).
  • Proficient use of all Microsoft Office suite programs

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Lead, supervise and motivate a team of MFG operators in the manufacturing department.
  • Good knowledge with excellent track record of leading, supervising, coaching and developing subordinates in terms of process knowledge and technical competency.
  • Able to handle issues alone and adequately during customer interaction. Represent the group with support from the senior supervisor.
  • Communicate within the organization, often outside the team. For routine matters, communication with outside the organization and/or with global team or vendors / consultants is essential. Adequate in both oral and written languages.
  • Schedules and conduct shift meetings in the absence of Senior Supervisor.
  • Capable to lead in improvement projects and drives productivity in his/ her area of coverage with supervision.
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge on Safety and Quality Systems (ISO 14K / ISO 18K / ISO 9001 / Environmental policies) Being a member in any of the systems is an added advantage.
  • Knowledgeable in the TOC concept and able to apply effectively in work area.
  • Able to use all basic and intermediate system tools effectively (JMP / HMI / Admin tools – Kronos / Concur / SAP / PR requisitions / 7 Steps problem solving tool / SPC).
  • Basic knowledge in troubleshooting skills and in problem solving techniques.
  • Leadership and Management Capabilities – Requires some support in making recommendations for improvement in both Technical and Management Subject.
  • Commander of Pit Stop activities and liaison with cross functional groups for shift and improvement activities ( MFG Eng , Equipment Engineering, EHS, Efficiency Engineering, QA ) – Applicable to coater supervisors
  • Maintain and sustain a good working environment / culture (eg. ISO 14K, ISO 9001, 5S).
  • Conduct employee performance reviews.
  • Responsible for shift schedule to include: work station assignments/rotations, employee training, employee vacations, employee breaks, overtime assignment, back-up for absent employees, and shift rotations.
  • Coordinate production startups, shutdowns, and changeovers.
  • Able to coordinate with Human Resources for appropriate staffing levels with some support from Senior Supervisor.
  • Capability to handle issues independently, as well as customer interaction.
  • Leads in improvement projects and drives productivity in his/her area of coverage or be as Project Lead of Module Team.
  • Conducts on-the-job training of all employees.
  • Maintains proper inventory levels of materials and parts.
  • Adheres to all safety procedures and good housekeeping standards.
  • Assures that the equipment is properly maintained and troubleshoots where necessary.
  • Responsible for effective communications levels and fosters team building.
  • Oversee and understand the responsibilities of the team to properly manage the hazardous waste at the coaters.
  • Inform EHS Department of any waste management issues that arise and of any new associates that need to be trained.
  • Responsible for shift schedule to include: work station assignments/rotations, employee training, employee vacations, employee breaks, overtime assignment, back-up for absent employees, and shift rotations.

Reporting Relationships:

  • Typically this position will have people reporting to incumbent. The number of persons reporting will depend on the areas of supervision.

Travel:

  • No regular travel is required outside First Solar global work site.

Physical Requirements:

  • Able to perform normal physical movements (e.g. standing & sitting for a long period, lifting, carrying and climbing) according to EHS ergonomic guidelines.
  • Will sit, stand or walk short distances for up to 12 hours per day.
  • Will climb stairs on an occasional basis.
  • Will lift up to 23 kg on an occasional basis, according to Minister of Health guidelines
  • Will lift up to 17 kg on a frequent basis, according to Minister of Health guidelines
  • Will push or pull up to 13 kg of force on an occasional basis.
  • Will push or pull up to 5 kg of force on a frequent basis.
  • Required to use hands to grasp, lift, handle, carry or feel objects on a frequent basis.
  • May reach above shoulder heights and below the waist on a frequent basis.
  • May stoop, kneel, or bend, on an occasional basis.
  • 20/40 vision in each eye (with or without correction) and the ability to distinguish between red, yellow and green is required.
  • Must be able to comply with all safety standards and procedures.
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment is required (including but not limited to; steel toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, protective jacket or apron and arm guards).
  • All associates working on the production floor may be required to wear a respirator at any given time and thus, the ability to wear a respirator is a condition of employment and continued employment (requires little or no facial hair).

Office Physical Requirements:
