Basic Job Functions:
Responsible for install and qualify new process equipment. Manage the process of capital equipment acquisition, fabrication, installation, start-up, and production ramp. Responsible for the overall project management, execution to timeline, be the key vendor interface. Lead troubleshooting activities; develop continuous improvement roadmaps to ramp equipment and process performance to achieve our production output goals.

Experience:

  • Industrial experience in the broad fields of Vacuum, Thermal, Laser, Wet, Material handling and/or Automation is desirable or
  • Minimum 5 years experience on trouble-shooting in one of the following fields:
    • VTD/Sputter: Experienced in CVD, PVD especially Magnetron Sputtering Process. Experienced High Vacuum Process Equipment (Preferable) or
    • Front-end: glass-grinding and cleaning, laser marking equipment and automation equipment with CNC capabilities or
    • Metrology: Thin film metrology especially spectrometry and visual inspection equipment, conducting metrology equipment GR&R and maintaining gauges calibration and certification, ability to combine knowledge of Device, Process and Equipment to troubleshoot root cause of manufacturing problems and process implementation problems or
    • Back End – Module Area
  • Prior experience working in Multinational Corporations with Tool Matching and Copy Exact methodology has added advantage.

Education:

  • Technical Disciplines / Degree in one of the following fields – Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Mechatronics, Chemical, Materials Science or Applied Physics.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline with 3-5 years’ experience as First Solar Manufacturing Engineer II or 5 years Engineering experience in a manufacturing setting or 3-5 years Engineering experience and 5 years Technical experience in a manufacturing setting or
  • MS Degree in a technical discipline with 3-5 years Engineering experience in a manufacturing setting or
  • PhD Degree in a technical discipline with 1-3 years Engineering experience in a manufacturing setting.

  • Demonstrated Proficiency in Mechanical & Automation Equipment Design.
  • Experience in vendor management and interface.
  • Proven experience in project planning and controls.
  • Demonstrated Proficiency in Statistical Data Analysis.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of manufacturing processes.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in generating and maintaining FMEAs.
  • Demonstrated to work autonomously to achieve goals.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with applying Robust Engineering principles to develop and implementing processes.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Manage medium to large size capital equipment projects in Global environment.
  • Provide concept/layout/design details for automation & material handling process tools.
  • Develop, continuously improve, and document robust solar module manufacturing processes to achieve the highest product performance in a cost-efficient manner.
  • Inject manufacturing requirements to new process development by working with development team.
  • Evaluate, Install and Qualify new equipment.
  • Responsible to interface with internal associates and supplier representatives as required completing assigned projects.
  • Develop and provide training to other engineers, engineering technicians, and production associates.
  • Champion continuous improvement activities using six-sigma and other statistical problem-solving methods.
  • Develop and maintain drawings, process specifications, develop and enforce standard operating procedures.

Reporting Relationships:

This position may have Technicians as direct report

Travel:

Domestic and International travel as required (may be up to 50%)

Physical Requirements:

  • Will sit, stand or walk short distances for up to entire duration of a shift
  • Will climb stairs on an occasional basis
  • Will exert up to 23Kg of force to lift, push or pull on a seldom basis
  • Will lift, push or pull up to 13Kg on a frequent basis
  • Required to use hands to grasp, lift, handle, carry or feel objects repetitively on a frequent basis
  • 20/40 vision in each eye, with or without correction, is required
  • Must be able to comply with all safety standards and procedures
  • May reach above shoulder heights and below the waist on a frequent basis
  • May stoop, kneel, or bend, on an occasional basis
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment is required (including but not limited to; steel toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, protective jacket or apron and arm guards)
  • All associates working on the production floor may be required to wear a respirator at any given time and thus, the ability to wear a respirator is a condition of employment and continued employment (requires little or no facial hair)
