Senior Platform Engineer - Climate-Tech SaaS- Germany

Apply now

We’re FIDgate, a Berlin-based climate-tech startup building a decision platform that helps renewable energy teams design and finance better projects — faster and with more confidence.

FIDgate

We are currently transitioning from pilot execution toward scalable productization through a major German EXIST-backed startup program.

IMPORTANT NOTE: ? EXIST eligibility requirement: Candidates must have obtained their most recent university degree (BSc or MSc) within the last 5 years and a valid work permit. . This is a formal requirement of the EXIST scholarship program — not a reflection of the seniority or experience level we're looking for.

The Role

We are looking for a Senior Platform Engineer to own the platform layer of the company:

  • APIs and backend systems
  • Simulation orchestration infrastructure
  • Authentication, user management, and permissions
  • Cloud-native infrastructure and deployment workflows
  • Web application backend systems
  • AI-assisted workflow infrastructure
  • Technical foundations for SaaS scaling

This is a senior, high-autonomy role on the company's critical path. You will work directly with the founder and modelling team to transform advanced engineering workflows into a reliable, scalable SaaS platform used by renewable energy developers, investors, and infrastructure stakeholders.

You are joining a platform with working foundations — optimization engine, authentication, cloud infrastructure — and taking it from MVP to production-grade. This is not a greenfield role, but it is a high-ownership one.

Tech Context

The platform is built on a modern Python and TypeScript stack, running on cloud infrastructure across AWS and GCP. You will work with async processing pipelines, a scientific compute layer, and a structured API-first architecture. Specific stack details are shared during the interview process.

What We Are Looking For

Technical:

  • Strong Python backend engineering — you have built and shipped production APIs
  • FastAPI or equivalent modern Python frameworks
  • Cloud-native architectures (AWS, GCP, or Azure)
  • Async processing and orchestration pipelines
  • PostgreSQL and data-intensive systems
  • Docker and container-based deployment
  • Infrastructure design for technical or scientific applications

Mindset:

  • Senior individual contributor — high ownership, high autonomy
  • Strong systems thinker who sees the whole, not just the ticket
  • Pragmatic builder capable of balancing speed and robustness
  • Comfortable operating in ambiguous, fast-moving environments
  • Interested in climate infrastructure, optimization systems, or deep-tech products

This Role Is Probably NOT a Fit If You:

  • Require highly structured corporate environments
  • Prefer narrowly scoped ticket execution
  • Are uncomfortable working close to evolving product and technical requirements
  • Have no interest in the energy transition or scientific computing domains
