Main Function of the role:

As part of the Sustainable Fixed Income (SFI) team, the Sustainability Investment Analyst will conduct sustainability research for a portfolio of companies assigned to them. The research and scores assigned to each company under their coverage will be a key input into the sustainability-themed investment strategies. Over time it is expected the Sustainability Investment Analyst will also start to engage directly with companies on sustainability topics. The role will also requiring contributing to production and publication of client-facing and related communications.


Key task and responsibilities:


Sustainability Research

• Conduct corporate sustainability research to enable the assignment of proprietary SFI sustainability scores.

• Ensure engagement research notes, tear sheets, and other files are ready for use and in line with operational processes and commitments.

• Keep all assigned SFI scores up-to-date by conducting sector reviews, monitoring news flow and conducting proactive research.

• Ensure that all companies under their coverage meet regulatory requirements including, “Do No Significant Harm”, “Sustainable Investment” and “Good Governance”.

• Contribute to the continuous enhancement and creation of research and assessment methodologies for proprietary SFI processes, including in response to new product launches and emerging industry trends.


Engagement

• In the future it is expect the holder will personally drive engagement and positive outcomes in line with engagement objectives; this includes engagement planning, SMART objective-setting, and company interactions, as well as written correspondence and wider activities.

• Manage engagement records, including ensuring company objectives, private notes and next steps are up to date, objectives and issues are set, and company interactions are promptly documented.

• Work with relevant EOS colleagues to understand country-level governance principles as well as EOS viewpoints on key engagement topics.

• Work with EOS to execute pro-active vote implementation in line with EOS country-level policies, escalating issues to senior engagers as appropriate before and after the vote. Where feasible, use AGM voting feedback and issues as a key engagement tool to further dialogue with portfolio companies.


Integration

• Support portfolio managers by rapidly responding to requests for prospective sustainability research to enable investment decisions on short timeframes.

• Plan engagement actions to leverage knowledge and relationships of credit analysts, and provide analysts with greater insight on the investments they are responsible for.

• Present sustainability research at credit committees and assigned scores so that conclusions can be debated as discussed amongst the team.

• Participate in relevant collaborative groups such as EOS sector clusters, Sustainable Investment Centre calls, FH1 meetings and EOS thematic webinars.


Reporting, Client Relationships & Marketing

• Assist the SFI team in fulfilling reporting requirements for all sustainability-integrated products, including interim and annual reports for Global High Yield Credit Engagement and Climate Change High Yield, quarterly engagement case studies, monthly/quarterly engagement commentary, and any others which may emerge.

• Participate in business development and client meetings as required.

• Support the response to ad-hoc client requests, ensuring these are always delivered on time and are of the highest quality.

• Develop thematic or issue-based thought leadership for publications.


Minimum knowledge & experience required

• Educated to postgraduate level (or equivalent) in a sustainability or investment related topic.

• Minimum 1-2 years’ experience in a relevant field, including investment research, sustainable and impact investing, investor engagement and/or corporate sustainability

• A demonstrated interest in sustainability topics and ESG

• Fluency (written and spoken) in English is required.

• Ability to work well independently and as part of a team.

• Self-confident, self-motivated and proactive.

• Interpersonal skills (e.g. team player, diplomacy, influencing, relationship building)

• Excellent written and oral communication skills.

• Computer literate (Excel, PowerPoint).
