Senior Chemical Engineer

Apply now

We are seeking a Chemical Process Engineer to join our fast-growing Cleantech company, Fairbrics, as part of our Process Team. You will play a key role in scaling up cutting-edge CO₂-based chemistry from the lab to industrial scale. Your work will support the development of our first demo plant and future production facilities, helping decarbonize the textile industry by turning industrial CO₂ emissions into synthetic fabrics.

This role bridges R&D and operations, translating catalytic chemistry research into viable industrial processes in collaboration with engineers, researchers, and external partners.

Our Culture

At Fairbrics, we are committed to fighting climate change with innovation. We foster a collaborative, transparent and mission-driven environment where every team member plays an active role in the success of our technology and impact. We value autonomy, initiative, and teamwork. You’ll be joining a diverse, passionate team with backgrounds in chemistry, engineering, and sustainability, united by the goal of building a more sustainable future through science and scale-up.

Responsibilities

  • Perform design and development of continuous chemical processes, from lab-scale results to demo and industrial implementation (including alcohol and amine routes)
  • Conduct process simulation and modeling using tools such as Aspen Plus equivalent, to support process design, optimization, scale-up and site selection/implementation
  • Develop thermodynamic models suitable for non-ideal, high-pressure systems, including parameter fitting for solubility, Vapor-Liquid Equilibrium (VLE), Solid-Liquid Equilibrium (SLE) and phase behavior
  • Develop and maintain mass and energy balances, and support mass and heat transfer evaluations where needed
  • Participate in the design and preliminary sizing of process equipment in coordination with engineering partners
  • Draft and review PFDs and P&IDs, ensuring alignment with safety and operational constraints
  • Support the screening and evaluation of reaction and separation technologies (such as membrane systems, distillation columns, flow reactors, etc)
  • Translate experimental results and R&D findings into robust process specifications
  • Assist in defining operating strategies and control parameters for pilot, demo and industrial units
  • Lead preliminary economic assessments of process configurations (APEA, CAPCOST, etc), including equipment sizing, utility consumption, capital and operational cost estimations
  • Assist and conduct safety studies including but not limited to HAZOP, HAZID, flammability, exothermicity (contributing technical insight on process risks and mitigation strategies)
  • Maintain thorough and accurate technical documentation throughout the development process
  • Ensure effective technical communication and coordination with internal R&D, external laboratories, equipment suppliers, and engineering partners throughout the development process
  • Benchmark existing technologies and (industrial) processes to compare to Fairbrics process (technical and CAPEX/OPEX)
  • Ensure effective collaboration with internal R&D teams to ensure efficient and smooth scale-up of the technology (give advices/guidelines to develop and optimise reactions and purifications, support in kinetics development or any data necessary to develop the process, …)

Qualifications

  • MSc or PhD in Chemical Engineering
  • 1–2 years of experience in process development, simulation, or scale-up in an industrial environment or process engineering firm
  • Proven skills in process simulation and modelling using tools such as Aspen Plus, ProII, or equivalent
  • Familiarity with economic evaluation methodologies (CAPEX/OPEX estimation)
  • Solid knowledge of unit operations, thermodynamics, heat/mass transfer, and process control fundamentals
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Capable of working independently with a proactive and structured mindset
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, both internally and with external partners (verbal and written)
  • Rigorous, autonomous, and well-organized in documentation and technical follow-up
  • Able to adapt quickly and to manage multiple projects, prioritize and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Fluent in English (written and spoken); French is a plus
