Job Description
Senior HVAC Systems Engineer
Location: Carrollton, TX
Compensation: $140,000 – $180,000 base salary, commensurate with experience
Overview
We are partnering with an innovative HVAC technology company developing OEM-designed, high-efficiency heat pump and HVAC systems for residential, multi-family, and hospitality applications. This organization specializes in component-level system design, modeling, and validation, with a strong focus on energy efficiency, advanced controls, and next-generation HVAC technology.
The Role
The Senior HVAC Systems Engineer will serve as a technical leader within an HVAC R&D organization, responsible for system-level HVAC architecture, component selection, thermal modeling, and performance validation. This role is hands-on and design-focused—not MEP or field application based.
Core Responsibilities
- Perform HVAC system-level design including compressors, heat exchangers, expansion devices, and refrigerant circuits
- Conduct heat pump system modeling and simulation using tools such as ORNL HPDM, MATLAB, Modelica, or equivalent
- Optimize COP, EER, SEER, HSPF, and part-load performance
- Design and evaluate variable-speed compressor systems, EEVs, BLDC motors, and microchannel heat exchangers
- Support system validation, lab testing, and commissioning, correlating test data with simulation results
- Develop and support HVAC control strategies and control algorithms
- Apply ASHRAE, AHRI, UL, DOE, and EPA standards and compliance requirements
- Collaborate with OEM manufacturing, suppliers, ODMs, and R&D partners
- Drive technology improvements in high-efficiency heat pumps, electrification, and decarbonization
Required Experience & Technical Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (MS preferred)
- 5+ years of OEM HVAC systems engineering experience
- Proven background in component-level HVAC design (not MEP consulting)
- Strong knowledge of:
- Thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid dynamics
- Refrigeration cycles and refrigerants (R-410A, R-32, R-454B, CO2 a plus)
- Heat pump system architecture and optimization
- Hands-on experience with HVAC simulation software (HPDM strongly preferred)
- Experience with controls development, control logic, and system integration
- Familiarity with R&D, prototype builds, DFMEA, validation plans, and lab testing
Preferred
- Experience with top-tier HVAC OEMs or manufacturers
- Residential or light commercial heat pump product development
- Electrification, inverter technology, and variable-capacity systems
- Exposure to DOE efficiency testing and regulatory compliance
- Proven record of new product introduction (NPI)
Why Join?
- Design next-generation HVAC and heat pump systems from the ground up
- Work in a true OEM R&D environment
- High compensation aligned with senior-level technical impact
- Direct influence on energy efficiency and sustainability outcomes
