We are seeking a Manager to join us in our Climate Change and Sustainability Services team. The EY Climate Change and Sustainability Services team is the biggest sustainability consulting team in Oceania. Our multidisciplinary teams help companies understand the risks and opportunities arising from climate change and sustainability issues, advising a significant proportion of the largest companies in New Zealand and Australia to help them drive performance beyond their bottom line. Our team works across the full spectrum of sustainability and climate change issues, including environmental, social and governance (“ESG”) strategy, outcomes measurement, climate risk and decarbonisation, human rights and modern slavery through advisory and assurance engagements. Our team works on both advisory- and reporting/assurance-related engagements and we operate as a single team across New Zealand and Australia. We are currently interested in recruiting to support the reporting and assurance side of our business.

This is a hybrid position is based in our Tāmaki Makaurau (Auckland) or Te Whanganui-a-Tara (Wellington). Our roles can potentially be adjusted to work flexibly with reduced hours. Please speak with us about potential options.

Ko Tō Rourou | Your key responsibilities

  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary team across a range of industries, assisting organisations on how they manage and report on a broad range of sustainability and climate-related risks and impacts.
  • Manage engagement teams and provide coaching and development advice to staff members.
  • Coordinate project activities and build strong lines of communication with clients, engagement teams and senior leaders to ensure engagements are managed to clearly defined timelines while delivering high quality work products.
  • Delivery of assurance of non-financial reporting, including sustainability metrics, emissions and energy reporting across a range of industry sectors.
  • Advise clients on the development of their strategies and delivery of non-financial reporting, including sustainability metrics, emissions and energy reporting across a range of industry sectors.
  • Contribute to strategy, solutions, methodologies, analytical frameworks and tools to help clients succeed and navigate complex regulatory environments and manage stakeholder expectations.
  • Assist clients to develop and implement sustainability strategies, develop targets, and implement plans to enhance sustainability value for a broad range of sustainability topics, including diversity, waste, modern slavery and environmental impacts.
  • Assist in climate scenario analysis including understanding climate risks and opportunities, in order to formulate short-and long-term management objectives.

Ngā Pūkenga | Skills and attributes for success

  • A strong professional interest in climate and sustainability issues, and a passion for learning more about these topics
  • Professional services/consulting experience.
  • Tertiary qualification in a quantitative subject, such as in engineering, maths, science, commerce, accounting, business or physics.
  • Experience in climate change services (either in professional services, industry or government).
  • Experience in GHG accounting.
  • Demonstrable experience in reporting and/or assurance of greenhouse gas emissions.
  • Working knowledge of the climate reporting regime in New Zealand.
  • Awareness of the Australian Accounting Standard Board S2 standard requirements.
  • Experience leading teams and coaching and developing team members.
  • Climate and nature disclosure experience, including knowledge of the Taskforce on Climate-related Financial Disclosure (TCFD) and Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosure (TNFD) Frameworks.
  • Knowledge of, and experience in decarbonisation approaches, climate risk and climate strategy.
  • Agility to learn and adapt on the job, ask the right questions and strive for the best solutions for clients.
