Position Summary
The Safety Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing environmental, health, and safety (EHS) programs at a solar panel manufacturing site. This role ensures compliance with OSHA, EPA, and local regulatory requirements while fostering a strong safety culture across production, engineering, maintenance, and warehouse operations. The Safety Manager partners closely with site leadership to proactively identify risks, reduce incidents, and support safe, efficient manufacturing operations.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain site-specific EHS policies, procedures, and programs aligned with regulatory and corporate standards
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, state, and local safety regulations applicable to manufacturing and renewable energy operations
  • Conduct routine safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments throughout the facility, including production lines, cleanrooms, and material handling areas
  • Lead incident investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective action plans to prevent recurrence
  • Manage hazardous materials programs, including chemical storage, handling, labeling, and waste disposal
  • Oversee contractor and visitor safety programs, including onboarding, permits, and compliance monitoring
  • Partner with engineering and operations teams on equipment safety, machine guarding, lockout/tagout, and ergonomics
  • Develop and deliver safety training programs for employees, supervisors, and leadership (e.g., OSHA, emergency response, PPE, LOTO, hazard communication)
  • Track and report safety metrics such as TRIR, DART, near misses, and corrective action completion
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for regulatory agencies, inspections, and audits
  • Support emergency preparedness, fire protection, and environmental response planning
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement and employee engagement in safety initiatives

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Safety Management, Industrial Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 5+ years of EHS experience in a manufacturing environment; renewable energy or semiconductor/solar manufacturing experience preferred
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations, hazard communication, machine safety, and environmental compliance
  • Experience with chemical handling and hazardous materials commonly used in solar panel manufacturing
  • Proven ability to lead safety initiatives and influence employees at all levels of the organization
  • Strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills

 

Preferred Certifications

  • CSP (Certified Safety Professional)
  • ASP (Associate Safety Professional)
  • OSHA 30 or equivalent safety training
  • First Aid/CPR certification

 

Working Conditions

  • Manufacturing environment with exposure to production equipment, chemicals, and cleanroom settings
  • Regular time spent on the production floor
  • Occasional off-shift or weekend support for audits, incidents, or operational needs
