Your Challenge

EXP, an award-winning international engineering firm, is currently seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Engineering Intern to support projects such as airport sustainability,microgrids, roadway and bridge stormwater design and review, sustainable infrastructure, GIS analysis, and transportation planning. This role is ideal for students with strong analytical and computer skills who are passionate about climate resilience, clean energy, and creating data-driven solutions for a more sustainable future. The intern will assist with research, writing, modeling, spatial data analysis, stormwater design and review, and technical documentation to help inform decision-making across a variety of infrastructure initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with project coordination, documentation, stakeholder-facing materials, and organizing, developing, and archiving documents, reports, and drawings.
  • Conduct background research on microgrid technologies, stormwater systems, renewable energy integration, sustainability and resilience planning, and compile literature reviews, benchmarking, and case studies.
  • Support feasibility assessments using datasets on energy demand, grid infrastructure, and resilience indicators.
  • Attend meetings and assist in preparing presentations, summaries, visuals, and meeting minutes.
  • Assist in writing, reviewing, and compiling technical reports, including analytical data and technical memos.
  • Analyze transportation datasets and assist in developing recommendations for sustainable systems to inform design.
  • Review drainage design for roadway and bridge projects, including performing hydraulics calculations.
  • Perform data entry and/or analysis.
  • Support staff with GIS services including GIS data analysis and reports.
  • Provide technical support on stormwater management design, environmental permitting, environmental resilience and sustainability projects, airport infrastructure and energy projects, and environmental planning projects.
  • Work with teams of water resources engineers, electrical engineers, and environmental scientists.

Requirements

  • Current student in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Engineering, Geography, Urban Planning, Energy Systems, or a related field.
  • Strong technical writing and online research skills
  • Basic understanding of math and science in fields related to calculus and physics
  • Proficient in verbal communication/presentation and English writing skills
  • Strong organization, problem solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to work on team projects and handle several assignments simultaneously·
  • Excellent research, writing, and communication abilities.
  • Ability to analyze complex datasets and present findings clearly.
  • Interest in energy resilience, microgrids, climate adaptation, and sustainable transportation.
  • Detail-oriented, curious, and eager to learn.
  • Strong computer skills, including:
  • Microsoft Excel (data cleaning, formulas, charts)
  • Microsoft Office Suite

Preferred Skills

  • Working knowledge of Hydraulics and Hydrology
  • Ability to work with large datasets in Excel, Python, R, or other analytical tools.
  • Working knowledge of Bentley Programs such as Microstation and Open Roads Designer or AutoDesk CIVIL3D
  • Working knowledge of Data tools (Python, R, or SQL preferred)
  • Working knowledge of GIS software (ArcGIS Pro, QGIS)
