We're looking for Embedded Linux OS Engineers to join us in Amsterdam or, alternatively, in our soon-to-be-opened office in Essen, Germany (until then remotely from Germany).

As an Embedded Linux OS Engineer you will join our agile Linux software platform team developing new embedded solutions for charging infrastructure electronics. The team is continuously developing and delivering the foundation for our connected smart charging infrastructure devices. You will contribute to work on the overall product development strategy for embedded systems.

Main Responsibilities

Here is an overview of what you can expect:

  • Development, configuration, testing and maintenance of our embedded Linux system using known Linux and open-source utilities for multiple targets.
  • Configuration of our Linux platform: kernel and bootloaders.
  • Maintenance of Linux and U-boot device drivers.
  • Take ownership over the fundamental platform of all of our solutions for charging infrastructure.
  • Create reliable features and APIs for our accessible charging stations (both AC & DC), enabling remote control, monitoring, troubleshooting and over-the-air updates.
  • Collaborate with System and Hardware engineers on electronic design and HW-SW interfaces.
  • Guide and support Technical Support Engineers on analyzing and solving low-level bugs.
  • Work closely together with your scrum team (SAFe), including system engineers, product owners and software architects.

Within your scrum team, you will be involved in software requirement management, design and implementation, unit testing, as well as code quality maintenance to create the best in-class products.

  • Work with application development teams to ensure end-to-end functionalities.
  • If you are a senior candidate, you will guide the more junior team members and give your expert advice on technical solutions.

What you'll bring to the team

  • University degree in computer science or in a similar technical field
  • You have a hands-on approach to problem-solving
  • Strong software skills in an embedded environment
  • Strong C programming skills
  • Excellent experience in low-level embedded Linux: build systems, kernel and bootloader configuration and development.
  • Experience with shell scripting (we write POSIX-compliant shell scripts)
  • Dedicated to all-round software quality via unit testing, CI/CD (we use Gitlab), and version control systems (we use Git)
  • Proven track record in successful software delivery for commercial systems, consumer products, industrialization of smart electronics.

If you have any of these, even better.

  • Experience with Linux device driver and kernelspace development
  • Experience in network communication layers (Wi-Fi, UMTS/LTE, Bluetooth)
  • Experience with communication standards and platforms (WebSocket, TCP/IP)
  • Familiar with middleware solutions for embedded systems
  • Experience in scripting languages such as Python and/or Lua
  • Knowledge of data encryption and security principles
  • Knowledge of Linux file systems
  • Experience with working with Docker
  • Experience with working in agile teams
