The ERCST (European Roundtable on Climate Change and Sustainable Transition), independent think-tank based in Brussels, Belgium, is seeking to hire a Policy Analyst.
The ERCST provides rigorous intellectual analysis of EU and international climate change developments and policies, by using the experience and research of its staff, as well input from stakeholders who participate in its activities. The ERCST provides original ideas and research into European and international debates on climate change policy. It represents its own views and strives to ensure in a very strict way its independence and integrity. Over the last years, ERCST has successfully organised and facilitated hundreds of workshops and events with policymakers and stakeholders, both in EU and non-EU countries, and produced dozens of papers and reports of the highest quality.
Responsibilities:
· Research and draft background materials on the ERCST Workstreams, with a focus on CBAM (Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism);
· Monitor and analyse relevant climate policy developments;
· Maintain liaison with stakeholders such as policymakers, business associations, environmental NGOs, etc. in their area of work;
· Represent the ERCST in external public events and various expert groups;
· Support and contribute to the ERCST’s research and outreach activities, including drafting background materials, co-authoring papers and reports, as well as conceptualising and delivering stakeholder meetings;
· Contribute to the successful delivery of projects and grants.
Skills and requirements:
· Thorough knowledge of climate change policy in the EU is a must;
· 1-3 years of professional experience;
· University degree of at least 4 years in economics, environmental economics, political science, EU affairs or similar – a good understanding of economics is important;
· Master degree in economics, environmental economics or EU policy is desirable;
· Some basic knowledge of EU policy making, and ICM technology policy framework is desirable;
· The ERCST working language is English. A minimum C1 standard level of English is a must (preferably C2) and proficiency in other languages will be considered an advantage;
· Good knowledge of Microsoft Office tools;
· Ability to work in a multicultural and demanding environment, take initiative and solve problems while under pressure;
· Ability to internalise substantial amounts of (new) materials and think laterally;
· Residence and work permit for Belgium.
Start date: Interviews start as applications are received. Work will start at a mutually agreed date, preferably in January.
Compensation: Competitive salary, depending on the level, experience, and background of the candidate. Daily meal vouchers, teleworking allowance and public transport compensation included.
Workplace: The ERCST offices are located in the EU quarter of Brussels, easily accessible by public transport and close to EU institutions.
