M&E Consulting Lead - Sustainability & Decarbonisation
Overview of role
Our client is a well-established building consultancy with a national presence and a strong reputation among a blue-chip client base. The business is genuinely purpose-led, with a clear commitment to improving the sustainability performance of the built environment, and it is now looking to build out a new MEP advisory capability in support of that ambition.
This is a rare opportunity for a hands-on, technically strong MEP engineer ready to step into a leadership role and shape a new service line from the ground up. The successful candidate will develop a sustainability-led MEP proposition that supports clients from initial assessment through feasibility, design and into practical completion, working alongside major investors, developers and occupiers as they transition towards a low carbon future.
Role responsibilities and requirements
- Service delivery: provide high-quality MEP advice and support to clients, covering:
- Assessments: condition surveys, asset and portfolio reviews, and vendor due diligence with MEP inspections
- Feasibility & MEP strategies: develop decarbonisation strategies and feasibility studies aligned to clients’ commercial and sustainability objectives
- Design: oversee and support practical, low carbon and innovative MEP design for existing portfolios, refurbishments and new developments
- Delivery: coordinate with project teams on progress, cost and quality, resolving construction challenges as they arise
- Handover: oversee commissioning and handover, ensuring compliance with industry standards, codes and client requirements
- Service development: help build the propositions, processes, tools and marketing materials needed to grow the MEP offering, working closely with the business development team
- Relationship and business development: build relationships internally and with clients to identify and develop MEP opportunities that support shared decarbonisation goals
- Team development: grow and lead a high-performing, collaborative team over time
- Partnership development: build on the firm’s network of industry partners and engage with the wider sector to raise the profile of both the individual and the business
Key skills and qualities needed
- Extensive MEP engineering and consulting experience, with deep technical expertise
- A relevant degree in building services, mechanical or electrical engineering (or equivalent)
- Strong experience across the full project lifecycle, from feasibility through detailed design to delivery
- Proficiency in relevant software, such as AutoCAD, Revit and IES
- Strong project management skills, including budgeting, cost control and problem-solving
- Excellent client management skills, with a track record of leading and winning bids
- Experience developing low-carbon MEP solutions aligned to net zero targets
- Experience of commissioning and handover, with a strong grasp of industry standards and regulations
- Strong team leadership skills, with the ability to mentor and develop others
- Excellent communication skills, able to engage confidently with clients and internal stakeholders
- Genuine integrity, a collaborative approach and a real passion for addressing climate change
