EU Carbon Market Specialist

We are looking for an EU Carbon Market Specialist to proactively contribute to our Brussels team’s work through the drafting and publishing of studies and policy briefs, managing related projects, organisation of events, and expanding EPICO’s network.
The successful candidate will start as soon as possible. Interviews of shortlisted candidates will be held in-person or online, and on a rolling basis.

The main tasks will include:
- On behalf of EPICO, coordinate a joint initiative with other think tanks and civil society organisations to monitor the revision of EU ETS.
- Produce written outputs, including internal briefings, policy papers, publications, blog posts, concept notes, and rapid-response “flash” analyses.
- Conduct in-depth policy research and analysis on EU climate and carbon market developments, with a focus on the EU ETS.
- Build, maintain, and expand EPICO’s network of stakeholders across EU institutions, industry, academia, and civil society.
- Monitor legislative and regulatory developments related to EU ETS and provide timely insights to the team.
- Support advocacy and outreach activities by translating complex policy topics into accessible messaging for diverse audiences.
Essential Qualifications:
- Strong knowledge of the EU ETS (particularly ETS-1) and its recent revision.
- Good understanding of the German policy debate surrounding the EU ETS and broader EU climate policy.
- Master’s degree in EU policy, economics, law, political science, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Excellent analytical and research skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information.
- Proactive, self-driven, and solution-oriented mindset, with a high level of creativity and initiative.
- Strong interpersonal skills: open-minded, collaborative, and able to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Alignment with EPICO’s mission and values.
- Proficient in the common MS Office programs.
- Good command of English.
Desired experience/skills:
- 1–3 years of professional experience working on EU ETS, carbon markets, or related climate policy.
- Good understanding of the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM).
- Experience organizing events or managing multi-stakeholder projects.
- Familiarity with EU policymaking processes and institutions.
- Experience in the private sector, think tanks, NGOs, or EU institutions is an asset.
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
- Good command of either/both German and French.
- Experience in stakeholder engagement, advocacy, or communications is a plus.
