Responsibilities :
Program/Department Overview
The Environmental Defense Fund is embarking on a new approach to global climate solutions through the creation of the EDF Office of Community Engagement. Home to the many of the brightest minds and talent in the environmental sector, EDF is a leader in providing solutions to the world’s biggest environmental problems. By taking a people focused view of our work, the Office of Community Engagement works alongside diverse stakeholders and constituency groups to help meet the growing need to provide collaborative and efficient implementation strategies for equitable climate solutions. The new office provides a platform to connect partners, leverage resources and scale solutions through innovative community engagement strategies.

Overall Function
The overall function of this intern will be to help establish a Community Engagement social media presence, internal and external. Also, will assist with current efforts from Marketing & Communications (Marcomm) and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) communications teams. This intern will also work with other departments across the organization.
Some of the tasks the intern will perform include preparing blog and social media posts, supporting our DEI Communications team, editing reports and proposals, research, outreach to allied organizations and virtual event coordination. The intern will have opportunities to gain new experience working alongside a diverse array of experts of a leading environmental organization, and to network at virtual events.

Key Responsibilities
Tasks will include but are not limited to:
  • Draft and edit copy for social media, website, blogs, training and organizing materials, and emails.
  • Participate in advancing EDF DEI goals in which people from all backgrounds and experiences feel connected, included, and empowered to address the environmental and organizational challenges in alignment with EDF values.
  • Collaborate regularly with staff from various teams across EDF.
  • Create and collaborate with DEI Communications Team.
  • Work alongside the EDF’S African American Mayor’s Association Fellow for collaboration on content creating and collaborating.
Qualifications
  • Must be enrolled in/be a recent graudate of an undergraduate degree program.
  • Demonstrated interest in Community Engagement, Equity and Justice, Environmental Justice, and/or Marketing.
  • Coursework in marketing, public relations, and community engagement.
  • Highly proficient In Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Must be well organized, motivated, and detail-oriented.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work in a team setting and have the ability to work independently when projects are due.
  • Demonstrate self-awareness, cultural competency and inclusivity, and ability to work with colleagues and stakeholders across diverse cultures and backgrounds.
  • Demonstrate initiative and problem solving skills.

U.S. Remote

Term
September 2022- December 2022

Hours
Full time (35 hours/week) or open to part time (15-20 hours/week) based on candidate’s availability.

Compensation
This internship would involve either compensation for work paid at a rate competitive with leading non-profits at $17/hr or academic credit. Students are encouraged to seek academic credit or funding through their college/university and EDF will ensure that any and all paperwork needed to secure academic credit is completed.
