Overall Function
Methane emissions finally got attention when the science conclusively showed the importance of reducing methane emission urgently to maintain the goal of the Paris Agreement. At COP26 the EU and US launched the Global Methane Pledge, and in December 2021 the European Commission proposed legislation to address methane emissions in the energy sector.

Our EU energy methane campaign focuses on getting the draft legislation improved and approved. We do that through working with many European stakeholder such as NGOs, think-tanks, business and government officials, including from the European Institutions and in selected member states.

Under the direction of the Senior Director, EU Energy Transition, you will play a critical role in the execution of EDFE’s methane regulatory campaign in the EU, ensuring programme goals are achieved on schedule.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct research and analysis on current state of play on methane related issues across the EU.
  • Engage in the day-to-day management of EDFE contracts, grants, partnership agreements.
  • Manage the day-to-day relationship with an international public affairs agency.
  • Communicate proactively with all key internal and external stakeholders including EU Institutions, private sector, and other NGOs.
  • Draft high-quality memos, presentations and policy analysis on short timelines; and drafting of policy briefings and reports as required.
  • Collaborate with EDFE’s communications professionals, including support with the production/update of campaign materials, as well as gaining input from colleagues and external partners as appropriate.
  • Participate in advancing EDFE diversity equity and inclusion goals in which people from all backgrounds and experiences feel connected, included, and empowered to address the environmental and organisational challenges in alignment with organisational values.
  • Additional relevant responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Educated to Master's or PhD level, or equivalent professional experience.
  • A proven track record of relevant experience, with approx. 6 years established career skills.
  • Experience in working on aspects of EU climate and energy policy
  • Engaging with relevant stakeholders including the industry, NGOs, think tanks or the EU institutions.
  • Experience in the day-to-day running of projects and/or advocacy campaigns.
  • Results-oriented, flexible, and proactive with the ability to think strategically.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent analysis and problem-solving skills.
  • Fluent in English and have a good command of at least one other European language.
  • Demonstrates self-awareness, cultural competency and inclusivity, and ability to work with colleagues and stakeholders across diverse cultures and backgrounds.
