ESG Manager
About you and the role:
This is a Fixed-Term Contract (9-12 months).
The ESG Manager will support our Head of ESG with the implementation and reporting of our ESG programme across the Group. Reporting to the Head of ESG (and by extension the Group Chief Risk Officer and ESG Oversight Group), you will serve as a subject matter expert and project execution leader in the business, with the ability to engage and influence key functions in order to support the delivery of our ESG strategy – which focuses on Climate Change, Investments and Human Capital as our three key pillars – and the reporting of our progress to internal and external stakeholders. You will deputise for the Head of ESG where required and will have the opportunity to lead a range of projects, working with departments across the business.
What you will be doing:
Strategy:
- support the Head of ESG with the ongoing development, execution and evolution of Enstar’s ESG strategy, ensuring it remains fit for purpose and is in line with good practice, market developments and evolving global regulatory requirements;
- lead on areas of strategy development and refresh, such as materiality assessments, as required.
Implementation:
- work with functions across the business (and external consultants, where relevant) to implement the ESG programme across the Group and to ensure that ESG considerations are embedded throughout the business, across the regions and territories that Enstar operates in;
- build strong relationships across the business, to support the development of Enstar’s ESG objectives;
- develop and manage external partnerships as required, in support of Enstar’s ESG objectives.
Reporting:
- lead the successful delivery of the firm’s annual ESG reporting, including an external ESG report and disclosures to TCFD, SASB and others, through effective day-to-day project management, liaison with ESG Working Group members and other internal stakeholders, along with drafting and editing of reports as required;
- support the Head of ESG with the co-ordination and management of Enstar’s cross-functional ESG Working Group and with internal management reporting to the firm’s ESG Oversight Group, Board and Risk Committees as appropriate;
- enhance Enstar’s ESG KPIs and monitoring, to measure our ESG performance and impact.
Risk management:
- work with the Head of ESG, ESG consultants (as required) and the wider Risk Management function at Enstar to anticipate and identify risks, feeding issues to internal stakeholders such as the ESG Working Group and Enstar Risk Committees as appropriate.
Communication and knowledge sharing:
- develop and deliver training and webinars on ESG issues to relevant stakeholders across the business;
- continue to expand Enstar’s internal knowledge base and library of resources;
- work with the Communications team to help develop and execute internal and external communications strategies;
- undertake independent research for ESG regulatory horizon scanning that ensures our understanding and appropriate implementation of emerging market standards and practices;
- engage with relevant ESG-related forums, representing Enstar at external events and industry forums on relevant topics where required by the Head of ESG;
- contribute to an inclusive workplace culture.
What you will bring:
- 5+ years of relevant experience in ESG/sustainability, preferably in financial/professional services or similar, with an ability to combine ESG expertise with industry experience and a desire to learn;
- Experience/awareness of different regulatory and voluntary ESG disclosure initiatives, e.g. TCFD, SASB, CDP, ISSB, UN SDGs, UN PRI, SBTi etc;
- Knowledge and experience of Environmental, Social and Governance factors that impact the financial services/insurance markets;
- Critical thinker and problem solver, with an ability to learn rapidly, synthesise technical information and think laterally;
- Excellent communicator, with the ability to explain complex information in an accessible way that enables clear messaging for different audiences and fact-based decision making;
- Ability to manage a diverse portfolio of work and deal with ambiguity;
- Ability to build strong relationships and influence stakeholders;
- Awareness of climate change risk management, scenario analysis or impact investing;
- Curious and innovative, with the ability to suggest and implement new approaches;
- A self-starter with a passion for ESG and a desire to support the development of yourself, colleagues and the wider business;
- Competent using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint);
- Ability to personally demonstrate the Enstar values (Entrepreneurial, Nimble, Solutions focused, Teamwork, Aware, Relevant).
- Experience in (ESG-related) regulatory compliance;
- Experience in presenting analysis to committees and/or senior stakeholders;
- Experience in project management involving multiple stakeholders;
- Understanding of greenhouse gas emissions standards and calculation;
- Experienced in the establishment of environmental and sustainability programmes; preparing/implementing/reviewing plans, projects, regulations or impact statements/KPIs;
- Understanding of and passion for sustainable finance, including knowledge of the global ESG, climate change and sustainability landscape and industry-led initiatives, and their impact on the insurance industry.
