Senior Software Engineer
About Enode
The world’s energy use is changing - but the shift to renewables is too slow. Unlocking it requires smarter, more connected solutions.
Enode’s platform powers the next generation of green energy apps by connecting and optimizing the world’s energy devices through our APIs. From electric vehicles to heat pumps, we enable flexible demand that prioritises renewable energy.
We work with the world’s leading energy companies and green tech innovators, giving them instant access to over 250M+ consumers - and the ability to help millions of people use energy more sustainably.
With the urgent need to decarbonise, there has never been a more critical time for Enode. That’s why we’re backed by leading investors like Y Combinator, Lowercarbon Capital, and Creandum.
Yet, we’re just getting started - and we’re looking for builders and innovators to join our mission-driven, passionate team.
What we're looking for:
We’re hiring a Senior Software Engineer to shape the next frontier of Enode’s platform - Flex - our orchestration layer that enables real-time grid flexibility at scale. You’ll build the foundations for how millions of connected energy devices coordinate with the grid, helping unlock the next phase of the renewable energy transition.
You’ll be part of Team Flex, a small, fast-moving, and high-impact team working closely with the CTO and customer-facing teams to bring our flexibility orchestration product from 0 → 1.
Flex started as an initiative shared across teams, but is now becoming a dedicated product area with its own roadmap and growing customer demand.
In this role, you will:
You’re energized by the challenge of building something new. You move comfortably between high-level architecture and hands-on implementation, and you care deeply that what you build makes a measurable climate impact.
You’re at your best when things are uncertain, when clarity has to be created rather than handed to you, and when collaboration happens with people across disciplines (from founders to customers).

Flex started as an initiative shared across teams, but is now becoming a dedicated product area with its own roadmap and growing customer demand.
In this role, you will:
- Design, build, and scale the backend systems that power our flexibility engine, from real-time asset connectivity and site-level optimization to aggregated-load modeling, dispatch, and control.
- Collaborate with engineers across Enode to extend the existing platform for more complex grid-scale use cases.
- Work directly with customers and internal stakeholders to translate complex requirements into robust, production-ready systems.
- Own the reliability and scalability of key systems as we move from pilots to live customer deployments.
- Approach problems with a builder’s mindset, combining speed and pragmatism with a high bar for quality.

You’re at your best when things are uncertain, when clarity has to be created rather than handed to you, and when collaboration happens with people across disciplines (from founders to customers).
- You have experience writing maintainable, testable backend code, ideally in an API or integration-heavy environment.
- You’ve worked on distributed systems or large-scale backend services and understand how to design for reliability, scalability, and performance in production.
- You take ownership from idea to production including scoping, building, and iterating quickly based on feedback.
- You’re proactive and self-directed, bringing clarity to ambiguity and thriving in unstructured, fast-moving environments.
- You balance speed and quality, knowing when to ship fast and when to invest in long-term foundations.
- You communicate clearly and confidently, collaborating effectively with senior engineers, founders, and customers to solve complex problems.
- You’re motivated by impact and customer success, not just technical elegance.
- Bonus: you’ve worked with TypeScript/Node, AWS, or real-time data systems (like DynamoDB, TimescaleDB, or Axiom), handled on-call responsibilities, or built API-first or energy/IoT products.
- Opportunity to join and impact an early-stage climate tech startup with global aspirations as we scale.
- A mission-driven, fun and caring environment with high drive and ambition.
- Competitive compensation, including a very attractive employee option program - you’re part of our journey.
- Remote-first in Europe, with the option of attending an office in Oslo or receiving a co-working pass on demand.
- Three annual off-sites to connect with the team in exciting & fun places.
- Flexible, human-first culture.
- Stipend for setting up your home office.
- Enode is an equal opportunities employer. Don’t meet every single requirement? Studies have shown that women and people of colour are less likely to apply to jobs unless they meet every single qualification. We are dedicated to building a diverse, inclusive and authentic workplace, so if you’re excited about this role but your past experience doesn’t align perfectly with every qualification in the job description, we encourage you to apply anyway. You may just be the right candidate for this or other roles.
