Role Summary:

The Head - Design and Engineering is responsible for leading all engineering, SCADA, WTG engineering, BoP design, and BESS technical functions for utility‑scale wind and hybrid renewable projects. This role ensures design excellence, grid compliance, cost optimization, and technical assurance from concept development through commissioning.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Leadership & Engineering Governance

- Lead and mentor teams across WTG engineering, electrical BoP, civil/structural, SCADA/controls, and BESS engineering functions.

- Define engineering strategy, standards, design guidelines, and quality benchmarks.

- Govern technical review and approval of all engineering deliverables, including IFC drawings.

2. WTG Engineering

- Oversee WTG engineering requirements including mechanical, electrical, structural, and control aspects.

- Validate WTG specifications, performance parameters, load cases, and grid compliance.

- Coordinate with OEMs for turbine interface, tower/foundation design loads, and SCADA integration.

3. SCADA, Controls & Digital Systems

- Lead SCADA architecture, cybersecurity compliance, PLC/server configuration, and data acquisition.

- Oversee integration of WTG SCADA, BoP SCADA, BESS EMS, and PPC systems.

 

4. Balance of Plant (BoP) Engineering

- Detailed designing of MV / EHV system, selection of switch gears, control & relay panels, plan of switch yard, transmission line designing etc, as per the relevant IEC/IEEE standards and CEA / CERC / Utility standards and regulations.

- Designing of substation, such as preparation of single line diagrams, plan and sectional layout, erection key diagrams, metering & protection diagrams, control schematics & logic diagrams, reactive power compensation & power plant controller systems selection as per the relevant regulations and standards.

- Preparation of plant earthing design calculations as per IEEE-80/IS-3043 standards.

- Conduct feasibility study - inputs project feasibility report, load flow / power flow studies, detailed project report, preparation of BOM/BOQ, project costing, other technical support etc.

- Conduct detailed site evaluations for targeted projects, including but not limited to, due diligence review, proposal development and pre-engineering support to BD team, Finance and Construction

- Oversee civil BoP works including foundation,PSS,internal roads, crane pad and drainage and control room buildings.

- -Review of Geotech and hydrology report

 

5. BESS / ESS Engineering

- Lead engineering and integration of BESS/ESS in hybrid projects.

- Review BESS technology, PCS/EMS design, safety systems, and compliance.

6. BoP Cost Estimation & Techno‑Commercial Support

- Lead comprehensive BoP and BESS cost estimation.

- Preparation of detailed equipment technical specifications for RFQ from suppliers / vendors / contractors / EPCs.

- Support procurement with technical evaluations, vendor qualification, and bid analysis.

7. Grid Compliance & Regulatory Requirements

- Ensure adherence to CEA, CERC, and state grid codes.

- Lead LVRT/HVRT compliance, reactive power performance, and grid modeling.

- Support in technical documentation for FTC process.

8. Project Execution & Technical Assurance

- Provide technical leadership during FAT/SAT, inspections, and commissioning.

- Ensure engineering deliverables support construction efficiency and operational reliability.

 

9. Vendor & Stakeholder Coordination

- Manage technical interactions with OEMs, EPCs, SCADA vendors, BESS suppliers, and consultants.

Requirements

Key Skills

  • Wind turbine engineering (mechanical/electrical/controls) and interface management.
  • SCADA, controls architecture, PPC/EMS integration and cybersecurity compliance.
  • Detailed BoP design (EHV/MV systems, switchyard, TL, protection systems, earthing as per IEEE‑80/IS‑3043).
  • Design optimization for PR, LCOE, and cost‑efficient layouts.
  • Feasibility analysis—load flow, project studies, DPR, BOQ/BOM preparation.
  • Techno‑commercial evaluation, vendor qualification, and bid support

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering (Master's in Power Systems preferred for strong grid/BoP context
  • 12-20+ years of experience in wind and hybrid renewable project design, including WTG, BoP, SCADA, and grid compliance engineering.
  • Strong familiarity with IEC/IEEE standards, CEA/CERC regulations, and Indian utility requirements.
  • Preferred certifications: PMP, Chartered Engineer (IEI), or specialized training in grid/SCADA tools (e.g., ETAP, PLS‑CADD).
