ABOUT THE ROLE

We are looking for a creative, politically aware, and digitally skilled communications specialist to lead our social media presence and produce our digital content.

This role sits at the intersection of digital communications and EU advocacy. You will not do policy work, but you must understand the EU agenda and geopolitical context well enough to proactively contribute to content planning alongside other communications colleagues. You will work closely with the Communications Referent on advocacy-related messaging and with the Content Lead on overall social media strategy, in a collaborative model where key messages and angles are defined together, then translated into digital content.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Social Media Strategy and Growth : develop and execute a proactive social media action plan aligned with our communication strategy, manage our channels autonomously (primarily LinkedIn), and grow audience reach and engagement.

Digital Content Creation : produce high-quality, platform-native content (posts, carousels, infographics, short videos, advocacy visuals, live event coverage) that translates complex EU policy topics into accessible and engaging formats.

Advocacy Content and Narrative Framing : work closely with the communications referent and policy colleagues to identify upcoming key moments (legislative milestones, Council presidencies, COP, etc.), contribute to content planning, and translate agreed messaging and narrative angles into engaging digital content aligned with Energy Cities' advocacy priorities.

Real-Time and Reactive Communications : monitor EU policy developments and produce timely, strategic content reactions, including social media coverage for speeches, panels, and high-level meetings.

Performance and Optimisation : track analytics and engagement metrics, use data insights to refine strategy, and experiment with new formats and platform features.

PROFILE

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Digital Communications, Social Media Management, Content Production, Journalism, or a related field.

• Minimum 5 years’ experience in digital communications or social media management, specifically in an EU, institutional, or advocacy environment.

• Demonstrated ability to translate advocacy and policy topics into engaging digital content. This is a core requirement.

• Solid understanding of the EU policy landscape and decision-making processes (Commission, Parliament, Council).

• Familiarity with sustainable energy and climate action topics and related EU policy (e.g. Green Deal, Clean Industrial Deal).

• Proven track record managing and growing professional social media accounts.

• Excellent writing skills in English; able to produce sharp, accessible content from complex material.

• Strong sense of political framing and narrative positioning.

KEY COMPETENCIES

• English C2 level mandatory. B level knowledge of French is an asset.

• Autonomous and proactive : leads the digital communications file independently, takes initiative to scan the EU agenda and propose content without waiting for briefs.

• Advocacy-aware : comfortable navigating EU policy topics and identifying the right moments to communicate.

• Balances political accuracy with accessibility and engagement.

• Strategic thinker with strong narrative-building and visual storytelling skills.

• Collaborative : works effectively within a communications team where messaging and strategy are defined collectively, and builds strong working relationships with policy experts.

• Fast, responsive, and comfortable in a dynamic policy environment.

• Digitally native and trend-aware.
