OVERVIEW OF POSITION
The Marketing and Communications Intern will support ECC’s communications and marketing strategies by assisting with digital campaigns, brand visibility, storytelling, and partner engagement. This position is ideal for a student or early-career professional interested in nonprofit marketing, community engagement, and communications for social change.
Location: Washington, DC (Hybrid)
Job Type: Part-Time (up to 20 hrs/week), Non-Exempt
Hourly Wage: $20/hour
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist in planning, creating, and scheduling content for social media platforms (Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, YouTube, X, etc.)
- Draft and edit written content, including newsletters, blog posts, press releases, and website updates
- Support marketing campaigns that promote ECC initiatives, events, and thought leadership
- Help design and distribute digital and print collateral using Canva or Adobe Creative Suite
- Track social media analytics and prepare reports on audience engagement and growth
- Conduct media and partner research to expand ECC’s communications reach
- Support internal communications, including staff updates and briefing materials
- Gather stories, quotes, and photos from staff, partners, and community members for campaigns
- Assist with event promotion, registration, and digital engagement strategies
- Maintain communications calendars, contact lists, and campaign trackers
- Perform other marketing/communications-related tasks as assigned
EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
- Current enrollment in or recent graduate of a program in marketing, communications, journalism, public relations, or related field
- Availability to work up to 20 hours per week on a hybrid schedule (some in-person availability in Washington, DC)
- Strong writing, editing, and verbal communication skills
- Familiarity with social media platforms and digital marketing strategies
- Demonstrated interest in social justice, climate action, or community development
- Detail-oriented with ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
- Proficiency with Google Suite and Canva (or similar content creation tools)
Preferred:
- Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator)
- Familiarity with social media scheduling/analytics tools (Buffer, Meta Business Suite, etc.)
- Experience with MailChimp or other email marketing platforms
- Knowledge of WordPress for web updates
- Interest in racial equity, climate justice, youth leadership, or economic inclusion
