OVERVIEW OF POSITION

The Northwest Regional Director is a social entrepreneur with strong operational experience, working at the intersection of climate, economic, and racial justice in the pacific Northwest.

As a champion for climate equity, the Regional Director collaborates with multiple stakeholders to launch programs and advocate for policies that create labor market demand for workers and businesses rooted in disadvantaged and historically marginalized communities. While the work often centers on the built environment, the broader mission is to promote climate equity, expand access to high-road economic opportunities, and reduce energy burdens in climate justice communities.

The Regional Director reports directly to the President/CEO.

Location: Seattle, WA or within commuting distance (Remote)

Job Type: Full-Time, Exempt

Salary: $125,000-$140,000

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

The Regional Director is a senior-level leader responsible for driving Emerald Cities Collaborative’s mission to build sustainable, just, and inclusive economies. This role leads high-impact program development, strengthens community and industry partnerships, and shapes policy advocacy to advance racial, economic, and climate equity across the region.

Key areas of responsibility include:

Program Development

  • Lead the implementation of high-quality, equity-centered programs.
  • Design new initiatives and services that expand access to clean energy benefits—especially for BIPOC, women, and low-income communities.
  • Promote inclusive workforce, business development, and wealth-building opportunities in the clean energy and energy efficiency sectors.

Fundraising & Development

  • Cultivate and grow relationships with public and private funders at local, state, and federal levels.
  • Identify new funding opportunities and lead the preparation of grant proposals.
  • Develop compelling marketing and pitch materials to support fundraising goals.
  • Share impact-driven stories and progress updates with funders and stakeholders.

Organizational Leadership & Management

  • Hire, lead, and support a regional team of 3–6 professionals in alignment with ECC’s mission and national objectives.
  • Collaborate with ECC National on strategic communication efforts, including speaking engagements and event representation.
  • Contribute to national field-building, knowledge-sharing, and capacity-building initiatives.
  • Develop and manage annual work plans, progress reports, and fundraising strategies for the region.

Policy Advocacy

  • Advance local and regional environmental and economic justice policies through strategic partnerships.
  • Advocate for government funding to support equitable community engagement and economic inclusion.

Program & Operational Management

  • Oversee program execution, ensuring timely and effective delivery of services and initiatives.
  • Support budget development and oversee spending, compliance, and reporting requirements.
  • Track program performance and leverage data to inform continuous improvement and outcomes.

Experience & Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in one or more of the following areas: construction, workforce development, economic development, or community engagement.
  • Strong knowledge of clean energy, environmental justice, or climate equity issues.
  • Proven ability to manage complex programs, budgets, and grant development.
  • Experience supervising and supporting a diverse, mission-driven team.
  • Demonstrated success in stakeholder engagement, facilitation, and cross-sector collaboration (e.g., community, labor, business, and government).

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree in Public Policy, Urban Planning, Environmental Studies, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of direct supervisory experience.
