About the Internship

Elements Energy, in collaboration with SBPDCL (South Bihar Power Distribution Company Limited) and AEEE (Alliance for an Energy Efficient Economy), is seeking enthusiastic Data Analyst Interns to support the implementation of a large-scale Demand Response Program in Bihar.

This internship provides hands-on experience in energy data analytics, electricity consumption analysis, consumer segmentation, demand forecasting, utility operations, and business intelligence. Interns will work with both field-collected and utility datasets to generate actionable insights that support Demand Response planning, smarter grid management, and energy efficiency initiatives.

The role combines data analytics, field surveys, business intelligence, dashboard development, stakeholder engagement, and real-world utility operations, offering exposure to one of India's emerging smart grid initiatives.

This is an excellent opportunity to work on a Government-supported utility project, gaining hands-on experience with real-world energy datasets, consumer analytics, smart grid technologies, dashboard development, and data-driven decision-making while collaborating with industry experts, utility officials, and technology teams.

Key Responsibilities

Energy & Utility Data Analytics

  • Analyze electricity consumption datasets from commercial, industrial, and residential consumers.
  • Identify energy usage trends, peak demand patterns, seasonal variations, and consumption anomalies.
  • Perform consumer segmentation based on load profile, tariff category, and consumption behavior.
  • Support the development of baseline energy consumption models for Demand Response participants.
  • Assist in demand forecasting and load profile analysis using historical utility data.

Data Collection, Cleaning & Validation

  • Collect, clean, organize, and validate field survey data and utility datasets.
  • Ensure data quality, consistency, and completeness before analysis.
  • Integrate consumer survey data with electricity consumption records.
  • Maintain structured databases for reporting and analytics.
  • Perform data validation and quality assurance checks.

Business Intelligence & Dashboard Development

  • Develop dashboards and visual reports using Microsoft Excel, Power BI, Tableau, or similar tools.
  • Create interactive reports for project monitoring and performance tracking.
  • Generate analytical insights to support decision-making.
  • Prepare presentations and documentation for project reviews and stakeholder meetings.
  • Support KPI tracking and reporting throughout the project lifecycle.

Field Surveys & Consumer Assessment

  • Participate in on-site surveys of commercial and industrial electricity consumers.
  • Collect information on connected loads, operating schedules, energy-intensive equipment, and electricity usage patterns.
  • Validate field observations with utility records where applicable.
  • Identify consumers suitable for participation in the Demand Response Program.
  • Support awareness activities and consumer engagement during field visits.

Stakeholder Coordination

  • Collaborate with SBPDCL officials, project partners, and internal project teams.
  • Participate in workshops, review meetings, and stakeholder consultations.
  • Present analytical findings and recommendations.
  • Provide regular updates on project progress and data analysis.

Skills Required

Technical Skills

  • Basic knowledge of SQL for querying datasets.
  • Familiarity with Python (Pandas, NumPy, Matplotlib) is an added advantage.
  • Experience with Power BI, Tableau, or similar visualization tools is preferred.
  • Understanding of data cleaning, validation, and exploratory data analysis.
  • Basic statistical analysis and reporting.
  • Knowledge of APIs, databases, or IoT platforms is an added advantage.

Domain Knowledge

  • Basic understanding of electricity consumption and energy systems.
  • Interest in Demand Response, Smart Grids, Energy Management, and Sustainability.
  • Knowledge of power distribution or utility operations is an added advantage.

  • Willingness to travel within Patna and nearby areas for field assessments.
