EIT Climate-KIC (Knowledge and Innovation Community) is Europe’s foremost climate innovation initiative. We understand that keeping global temperature rise below 1.5˚C demands unprecedented change. Established in 2010 and headquartered in Amsterdam, we orchestrate a community of more than 400 organisations including large corporations and SMEs, municipal and regional governments, universities, and research institutes, as well as non-governmental organisations and uncommon actors. Historically, we have been funded by our founder and core funder, the European Institute for Innovation and Technology (EIT), but we are currently transitioning to a multi-funder model.


EIT Climate-KIC colleagues are based in one of our local offices across Europe or work remotely from home based in one of the countries where we have a branch. We meet at our local offices to exchange and connect and use online collaboration tools work with each other and with our Community. On occasion, we meet in-person as teams, and once per year as an organisation.


As a mission-driven organisation dedicated to climate transformation, we consider the climate impact of our own actions, for example travel, catering, or IT equipment.



ABOUT THE ROLE

EIT-Climate KIC is seeking a Finance Project Manger to support financial management of NetZeroCities. NetZeroCities is a multi-sectoral partnership led by Climate-KIC to lead implementation of the European Mission for ‘100 Climate-neutral and Smart Cities by 2030’. The Mission represents Europe’s global leadership on climate action, supporting the European Green Deal commitment for all of Europe to become climate neutral by 2045.


This position will report directly to the Financial Performance Controller and will be a Business Partner to the NZC Programme Manager.


The role will be responsible for ensuring the efficient and effective financial management of this programme, working closely with both the project team and finance as well as any external stakeholders. They will ensure proper controls and processes are implemented to align the project with existing and developing policies.


Key Responsibilities


  • Presenting timely financial information to non-finance managers
  • Budget reviews and regular forecasting – monitoring progress against financial deliverables
  • Cash flow forecasting and monitoring
  • Managing financial reporting and other financial communications to project funder
  • Facilitate and manage funder audits.

ABOUT YOU

To be successful in this role you will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a desire and ability to partner with colleagues (both finance and non-finance). It is expected you would already have experience in a finance role and can display a can-do attitude with a practical and creative approach to problem solving. You should be analytical, with attention to detail and the ability to keep the big picture in mind while focussing on the detail and complexities of implementation.


Education/Qualifications

  • Part qualified Accountant, or an accounting/business degree.


Experience


  • At least 3 years of experience in an accounting or finance role, preferably within mission-driven organisation and multi-functional team environment.
  • Sound knowledge of basic accounting principles is essential.
  • Experience/knowledge of the Horizon Europe framework is desirable.

Skills

  • Fluent in English, preference for at least one additional language commonly in use in Europe.
  • Strong capabilities with collaborative IT applications (we use Office365 and Microsoft Teams, as well as Miro, Zoom, Mentimeter, etc.).
  • Intermediate Excel skills, advanced skills are a plus.
  • Strong time management skills will be essential, with a track record of delivering on objectives according to established timelines.

Location

Candidates must have the right to work in the EU prior to applying for the position. Ideally, the successful candidate will be based in the London or Amsterdam offices, but we support full remote or hybrid forms of working and offer a high degree of flexibility.
