The Opportunity

We are now seeking a Senior Technical Trainer to join our System Operations training team located on site in Dublin, Ireland.

This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual who is interested in training and developing the team that are responsible for real-time operation of the National Control Centre (NCC).

In the role of Senior Technical Trainer, your will work closely with the NCC Training Coordinator to plan, execution and record the training and certification of various roles who operate in the NCC.

EirGrid, Ireland’s independent electricity Transmission System Operator (TSO), is a purpose-driven organisation at the heart of Ireland’s energy transition. We make sure that Ireland has a secure and sustainable supply of electricity, essential to power communities and drive the economy. Through our work, we are also leading the transition to a low carbon future and future-proofing Ireland's electricity grid for the next generation by making the grid renewable ready. 

The Operations and Asset Management Office is responsible for the operation, development and enhancement of the power system and the wholesale electricity market. The Office leads the sustainable implementation of transmission system and market development to meet the needs of all users of electricity through the growth in low carbon and renewable sources.

The NCC monitor and control the power system on a minute-by-minute basis to ensure its safe, secure, reliable, economic and efficient operation in compliance with ESB Safety Rules, the Grid Code and the rules of the wholesale electricity market.

About You

Successful candidates will have the following:

  • A university degree in Engineering or other equivalent degree, typically with 5-7 years relevant experience, ideally in an operational role.
  • Experience working as a certified Grid Control Engineer (relief or otherwise) or have willingness to complete the training and develop your experience as an NCC Grid Control Engineer (relief).
  • Understanding of power system engineering and cross-border markets including congestion management.
  • Exceptional communicator, able to articulate technical concepts and analysis to technical and non-technical audiences, and can influence, inspire and collaborate with others to deliver and objectives.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development.
  • Acumen for training, knowledge transfer and use of the IT training environments.
  • Acumen for planning, coordination and communication.

Job Relationships

Reporting to the Director of System Operations.
