Job Purpose

EirGrid holds licenses as the independent electricity Transmission System Operator (TSO) and Market Operator (MO) in the wholesale trading system in Ireland. EirGrid also has a growing portfolio of regulated cross-border interconnectors and already is the owner and operator of the 500 MW High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) East West interconnector (EWIC) to Wales and is jointly developing the 700 MW HVDC Celtic Interconnector link between Ireland and France. It is also responsible for the integration of proposed merchant HVDC interconnectors such as the Greenlink and Mares Interconnectors to the Irish power system and market as well as the identification of opportunities for new interconnectors to Great Britain, France, Belgium, the Netherlands and Spain.

The Operations & Asset Management Directorate comprises highly skilled professionals with backgrounds in engineering and business/commerce - together they manage the operation of the power system and market, ensuring that the lights stay on in a secure, reliable, sustainable and economic way. The Directorate is also responsible for the implementation of transmission system and market transformation in order to meet the future needs of all users of electricity. This includes the optimal use of interconnectors to enhance security of supply and to reduce Ireland’s reliance on high carbon producing machines and replacing them with renewable generation in line with the government’s National Policy Statement on Electricity Interconnection 2023.

The Cross Border UAT Manager will be responsible for User Acceptance Testing processes from planning through to completion of testing and sign-off of results. The role holder will ensure that the Interconnector elements pertaining to technical specifications, functional requirements and asset operations are developed, managed and maintained transparently and in line with international standards. The role holder will also work collaboratively to ensure EirGrid interconnector requirements are met and relationships are managed with all relevant stakeholders in line with a budget of approx. €50-60m per annum for the EWIC and Celtic interconnectors.
