Job Purpose
The Future Power Markets team is responsible for providing thought leadership in relation to market changes needed to deliver on the renewable electricity targets and is also responsible for delivering large programmes of work to deliver on changes approved by the regulatory authorities.

- Scheduling and Dispatch (SDP): This project is developing design changes to our core market and operational systems to deliver on changes associated with the treatment of non-priority dispatch renewables defined in the Clean Energy Package, making improvements on wind dispatch, and updates to scheduling and dispatch process to incorporate new energy storage solutions, low carbon sources of inertia, and the provision of reserves and systems services from new technologies.
- Future Arrangements for System Services (FASS): This project is developing new arrangements for the procurement of innovative System Services which will be vital in facilitating operational change which will allow the power system to be operated with increasingly high levels of low carbon technologies and in achieving our 2030 renewables targets;
- European Integration: Since Brexit the all-island electricity market is no longer integrated with the EU. Once the Celtic Interconnector goes live in 2026, we will be integrated once again to the EU and this will require significant market changes.
- Single Electricity Market (SEM)—GB Arrangements: The SEM market is interconnected with the GB market. Work is ongoing to develop post-Brexit arrangements which includes monitoring of and acting on changes to the structure of the GB markets.
- Competitive market transition to Net Zero: Support the development of electricity policy in achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2050, in conjunction with the Commission for Regulation of Utilities (CRU) and Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications (DCEE).
- Long Duration Energy Storage: Investigating the options for a market mechanism to incentivise long duration energy storage.
- Capacity Market Development: Lead the TSO support of the Capacity Remuneration Mechanism, in collaboration with industry, regulators and stakeholders
- Tariff Policy: Lead the development of new tariff policy arrangements and co-ordinate the response to EU guidance on tariffication and approaches to reducing network charges

- Define and maintain the FASS Readiness Plan, aligned with programme milestones and governance, including scope, owners, acceptance criteria, and entry/exit gates (e.g., Trial, Market Test, Go‑Live, Hyper‑Care).
- Establish measurable readiness metrics (e.g., participant onboarding %, training completion, test pass rates) and report status/risks/issues to programme boards.
- Identify stakeholder groups (internal operations, IT/OT, commercial, markets; external participants, regulators, vendors) and complete readiness gap assessments with targeted action plans.
- Coordinate and facilitate industry workshops, clinics, and bilateral sessions; capture feedback and ensure traceability to programme decisions.
- Build strong relationships with key external stakeholders (regulators, government departments, European bodies, industry groups).
- Own the FASS communications calendar (briefings, FAQs, guidance notes, website updates, newsletters) ensuring clear, accessible translation of complex market and technical changes.
- Oversee development and delivery of training for internal teams and market participants (formats may include e‑learning, webinars, simulations)
- Define participant onboarding, registration, and qualification processes for FASS services (e.g., evidence packs, test entry/exit, defect triage)
- Coordinate cross‑functional test phases with Systems Delivery and Operations (e.g., interface, integration, and market trials), ensuring timely resolution of issues and clear go/no‑go criteria.
- Work with Operations, Control Centre‑adjacent functions, System Services & Analysis and Market Operations to confirm business process changes, SOPs, and role‑based impacts are documented, trained, and embedded..
- Ensure readiness of central and market arrangements (codes, procedures, settlement/market rules updates) in collaboration with regulatory and policy teams
- Ensure complex market design concepts are translated into clear, accessible messages for stakeholders with varying levels of technical knowledge.
- Serve as a key spokesperson for FASS workstreams, presenting at industry events, conferences and regulatory forums.
- Build strong, trust‑based relationships with industry participants to ensure transparent, constructive engagement on market changes.
- Lead Go‑Live readiness reviews; run cutover playbooks; coordinate incident management and stakeholder comms during hyper‑care.
- Maintain auditable readiness artefacts and change logs; prepare papers/submissions for regulatory authorities where required.
- Champion best practice and continuous improvement across the FASS programme and other programmes.
- Relevant third level degree in Engineering, economics or business with a minimum of 6 years power system industry and electricity market expertise and experience;
- Strong experience in electricity markets, market design, energy regulation or system planning.
- Proven programme/readiness experience—planning, tracking metrics, stakeholder facilitation, and delivery to milestone.
- Strong communication skills, able to simplify complex market and technical topics for varied audiences; experienced in writing and presenting.
- Experience engaging with stakeholders at senior levels across industry, government or regulatory bodies.
- Excellent presentation, communication and facilitation skills including experience running workshops or consultations.
- Ability to simplify complex issues and communicate clearly to technical and non‑technical audiences.
- Experience in establishing and maintaining effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders;
- Excellent interpersonal skills and a proven ability to work effectively as part of a team.
