Job Purpose
The Innovation and Planning directorate comprises highly skilled professionals with backgrounds in engineering and business/commerce. The core responsibility of the Innovation and Planning directorate is to plan the power system and market of the future and innovate in how we operate and develop the grid to ensure we meet climate change targets and decarbonise the electricity system. Creating a culture of continuous improvement that drives technical and process innovation is central to delivering on these roles.
The Future Networks Function within the Innovation and Planning directorate is responsible for leading the strategic design of the future transmission network in Ireland. Core to ensuring the power system is fit for the future, teams within Future Networks have developed a process whereby customers seeking to connect to the Irish power system must comply with grid code. Customers must prove grid code compliance in advance of energisation and connection to the Irish transmission grid.
We now have a vacancy for a leadership role that underpins the initial part to this process: Pre-Energisation Data – (PED). This team is responsible for timely issuance of the relevant power system data to customers who must carry out their studies to prove compliance with grid code.

- Support the Head of Future Networks and Strategic Offshore Planning in leading a team of technical experts to deliver on its remit.
- Work and collaborate closely with team from Grid Code Compliance to ensure the process is being followed and customers maintain pace with the change requirements on the power system.
- Maintain a rigorous tracking system that provide full auditable traceability for the PED process and the outcomes of grid code compliance studies.
- Lead and evolve the process for PED to ensure it maintains pace with the change requirements on the power system

- Provide direction to and coordinate the work of team members and assist with the development of junior staff;
- Manage and co-ordinate the work of external consultants on key projects;
- Communicate effectively to customers and business stakeholders, including senior management team, via meetings, presentations and reports;
- Represent EirGrid Group in external meetings and fora in order to influence key stakeholders across the electricity sector;
- Within the team, foster the adoption of a proactive innovative and stakeholder engagement approach and the development of high-performance capabilities and behaviours;
- Provide thought leadership and advocate industry best practices and principles;
- Work with the Head of Future Networks and Strategic Offshore Planning and other senior members of the team for the strategic development of the section and wider Innovation & Planning directorate;
- Make decisions impacting the Innovation and Planning directorate reflecting the strategy and objectives of EirGrid Group
- Engineering degree or equivalent, typically with 10+ years relevant power system experience;
- Extensive knowledge and experience of power system studies such as; Voltage Fault Ride Through, Harmonic Assessment, Voltage Despression, Voltage Step Change, Flicker Studies, RoCoF, and Dynamic Performance Assessments. Proven experience of managing a process that is critical to network integrity;
- Ability to lead and influence others to move towards a common vision or goal and able to work collaboratively with and through others;
- Ability to coach, provide direction to and co-ordinate the activities of team members, developing high performance capabilities in a changing and dynamic environment
- Exceptional communicator, able to articulate technical concepts and analysis to non-technical audiences and business leaders;
