About The Opportunity

The School of Business and Law at Edith Cowan University (ECU) is seeking an outstanding academic leader for the position of Professor in Accounting. This role offers an exceptional opportunity for a distinguished scholar with a strong international reputation in accounting research—particularly in the areas of corporate governance, sustainability reporting, and climate-related financial disclosures.

The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in advancing the school’s research and teaching excellence and will make a significant contribution to both the School’s Centre for Sustainability and Governance Research and Finance and Investment Research Cluster. The appointee will be expected to lead high-impact research, foster interdisciplinary collaborations, mentor early- and mid-career academics, and strengthen ECU’s growing global reputation for excellence in business sustainability, governance, and financial accountability.

About You

The successful candidate will possess:

  • PhD in Accounting or a closely related discipline.
  • Internationally recognised research profile, with an exceptional record of publications in leading accounting journals (ABDC A*/ FT50)
  • Demonstrated expertise in climate change reporting, corporate governance, and sustainability-related disclosures.
  • Active engagement with professional and regulatory bodies – such as the Australian Accounting Standards Board (AASB), International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB), Accounting and Finance Association of Australia and New Zealand (AFAANZ), Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ), CPA Australia, or equivalent international organisations to inform and influence professional practice, standards, and policy development.
  • Strong track record of mentorship and research collaboration, evidenced by co-authored publications with diverse teams and independent scholarly contributions in esteemed journals
  • Extensive experience supervising PhD candidates to completion and fostering the next generation of accounting scholars
  • Academic and research leadership, demonstrated through active contributions to research centres and governance roles within the School and the University
  • Commitment to teaching excellence through innovative curriculum design and leadership in developing contemporary accounting units that embed sustainability principles and address emerging issues in the discipline.
  • Proven record of securing competitive external research funding and building productive cross-institutional and international collaborations.
