Controls Engineer (Building Automation)
We are looking for a motivated Building Automation Systems (BAS) Engineer to join our client's growing team in Ashburn, VA. This position is ideal for an engineer with approximately 2 years of experience in HVAC controls or building automation who is eager to grow their technical skills and work on exciting commercial and mission-critical projects.
The BAS Engineer will support the design, programming, commissioning, and troubleshooting of building automation systems while collaborating with project managers, senior engineers, and field technicians.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the design and implementation of BAS and HVAC controls systems
- Develop control drawings, points lists, and project documentation
- Support BAS programming, graphics creation, and system integration
- Participate in startup, commissioning, and troubleshooting activities
- Coordinate with contractors, vendors, and internal teams during project execution
- Review project plans and specifications to ensure system compliance
- Help maintain project schedules, documentation, and customer communication
- Provide technical support to field technicians and customers as needed
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or technical training in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, HVAC, Controls, or related field preferred
- Approximately 2 years of experience in Building Automation Systems, HVAC controls, or related industry
- Basic understanding of HVAC systems and automatic controls
- Familiarity with BAS platforms such as Siemens, Johnson Controls, Schneider Electric, Honeywell, Trane, or Niagara-based systems
- Knowledge of BACnet or other building systems communication protocols is a plus
- Ability to read mechanical and electrical drawings
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Good communication and organizational abilities
- Willingness to learn and grow within the BAS industry
