Key Responsibilities

  • Manage end-to-end carbon project development in India, from opportunity identification and feasibility assessment to validation, registration, verification, issuance and monetisation of carbon credits.
  • Identify and evaluate carbon projects across sectors such as renewable energy, agriculture, waste management, industrial decarbonisation, energy efficiency, bioenergy, forestry/AFOLU, clean cooking and carbon removals.
  • Assess project eligibility and applicability of methodologies under Verra VCS, Gold Standard, Global Carbon Council (GCC) and other relevant international carbon standards.
  • Develop working knowledge of India's evolving Carbon Credit Trading Scheme (CCTS) and Indian Carbon Market (ICM) and monitor regulations, notifications and sector-specific requirements issued by relevant Indian authorities.
  • Support projects intended for international markets by assessing requirements related to Paris Agreement Article 6, host-country authorisation, corresponding adjustments and CORSIA, where applicable.
  • Prepare and review PDDs, feasibility reports, baseline assessments, additionality assessments, monitoring plans, emission-reduction calculations and other technical documentation.
  • Coordinate MRV and digital MRV (dMRV) activities, including collection, validation and analysis of project data required for carbon-credit issuance.
  • Liaise with project developers, corporates, government departments, state agencies, VVBs, carbon registries, consultants and technology partners for timely project execution.
  • Conduct due diligence on potential projects covering methodology eligibility, additionality, baseline, leakage, permanence, environmental integrity, regulatory risks and expected carbon-credit generation.
  • Develop carbon-credit projections covering tCO₂e reductions/removals, crediting period, expected issuance, project costs, carbon pricing and potential carbon revenues.
  • Support commercial structuring of carbon projects, including carbon-credit offtake agreements, forward purchase arrangements, revenue-sharing models and project-financing structures.
  • Track domestic and international carbon-credit prices, buyer requirements, market trends and regulatory developments relevant to Indian projects.
  • Support engagement with Indian corporates, PSUs, state governments, municipalities, agricultural organisations and industrial project owners for development of scalable carbon programmes.
  • Coordinate with internal technical, commercial, legal and finance teams for NDAs, MoUs, project agreements, term sheets and commercial proposals.
  • Maintain a comprehensive India carbon-project pipeline, tracking project stage, methodology, expected volumes, validation/verification status, issuance timelines, commercial discussions and key action items.
  • Prepare concept notes, project proposals, technical presentations, financial assessments and management reports for clients, government stakeholders, investors and senior management.
  • Represent the organisation in meetings with government agencies, industry bodies, carbon-market stakeholders, project developers and potential buyers.


Candidate Profile

  • 5–6 years of experience in carbon markets, climate change, sustainability, ESG, GHG accounting, carbon project development or climate finance, preferably with direct exposure to Indian projects.
  • Strong understanding of GHG accounting, MRV, carbon methodologies and the carbon project lifecycle.
  • Experience with one or more standards such as Verra, Gold Standard or GCC.
  • Understanding of the Indian Carbon Market/CCTS and emerging international mechanisms such as Article 6 and CORSIA.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to work with emission-reduction calculations, Excel-based financial models and large project datasets.
  • Strong written and verbal communication with the ability to interact confidently with government officials, corporates, project developers, auditors and international stakeholders.
  • Ability to independently manage multiple carbon projects from initial assessment through registration and issuance.
