EcoCounts is looking for an experienced Fundraising Lead Trustee to lead fundraising strategy, develop income streams, and support the growth of a mission-driven, climate-focused organisation.

What difference will you make?

Developing a clear, realistic, and sustainable income strategy is one of EcoCounts’ most important priorities at this stage of growth.

As an early-stage organisation with ambitious programme and development goals, our ability to build financial resilience will directly determine the scale, stability, and long-term impact of our work. The Fundraising Lead Trustee will therefore play a pivotal role in shaping EcoCounts’ future trajectory.

Through strategic leadership and guidance, this trustee will help EcoCounts

  • Establish a focused and achievable fundraising direction
  • Build diversified and sustainable income streams
  • Strengthen organisational stability and capacity
  • Enable the expansion of programmes and partnerships
  • Reduce financial uncertainty and growth constraints

Beyond financial outcomes, the role will help embed a culture of realistic planning, measured growth, and strategic decision-making around resources and impact.

By helping EcoCounts build stronger financial foundations, the trustee will directly support the organisation’s ability to scale its initiatives, broaden engagement, and deliver meaningful, practical climate action at both community and wider societal levels.

What are we looking for?

We are seeking a trustee who can bring both strategic insight and practical fundraising experience to support EcoCounts at a formative stage of development.

Our ideal trustee will be comfortable operating in an early-stage, evolving environment where priorities, systems, and approaches are still being shaped. This role will suit someone who enjoys building direction, creating structure, and contributing to sustainable organisational growth.

Most important

  • Significant experience in fundraising strategy or income development
  • A track record of identifying and developing viable funding streams
  • Ability to think strategically while remaining pragmatic and realistic
  • Confidence contributing at the Board level
  • Strong judgement around priorities, risk, and capacity

Highly valuable

  • Experience with trusts & foundations, partnerships, philanthropy, or unrestricted income
  • Experience supporting fundraising in small or resource-constrained organisations
  • Experience working with or guiding volunteer-led initiatives
  • Ability to help establish focus, momentum, and achievable targets

Personal qualities

We are particularly interested in trustees who are

  • Collaborative, constructive, and solutions-focused
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and organisational growth phases
  • Able to balance ambition with realism
  • Clear and thoughtful communicators
  • Genuinely motivated by the organisation’s mission and long-term potential

An interest in climate, sustainability, or systems-level change is welcome, though prior subject-matter expertise is not required. Curiosity and openness to engaging with EcoCounts’ Carbon Accounts framework are more important.

What will you be doing?

EcoCounts is entering an important stage of development and is seeking a Fundraising Lead Trustee to help shape our financial sustainability and long-term growth.

Our Board is currently small, engaged, and actively involved in organisational development. As an early-stage initiative, we operate with limited fundraising infrastructure and no dedicated fundraising staff. While this presents challenges, it also creates a rare opportunity for a trustee to play a genuinely formative role in building strategy, systems, and momentum from the ground up.

Over the next 12 months, EcoCounts aims to strengthen its operational foundations, expand its programme of community-based initiatives, and develop scalable tools and partnerships. Building a clear, realistic, and diversified income strategy is therefore a critical priority.

The Fundraising Lead Trustee will play a key role in

  • Leading fundraising direction and priorities at the Board level
  • Helping establish a focused and achievable income strategy
  • Identifying viable funding opportunities and partnerships
  • Supporting early fundraising activity and momentum
  • Providing oversight of fundraising progress, risks, and capacity
  • Advising the Board on sustainable income planning

The trustee may also support the development of fundraising structures, processes, and volunteer involvement as the organisation grows.

This role offers the opportunity to contribute at a strategically significant moment, where decisions made now will directly influence EcoCounts’ future trajectory, stability, and impact.
