EcoAction Arlington, an environmental education and service nonprofit, has served the Arlington community for over 40 years. Its mission is to promote the stewardship of natural resources and support sustainable lifestyles to protect water, air, and open spaces throughout Arlington. The organization engages residents and local business leaders to address pressing environmental challenges, such as climate change, habitat preservation, and resource conservation. EcoAction Arlington is distinguished by its focus on fostering local engagement and empowering individuals to adopt greener, more sustainable practices in their daily lives.


Role Description

This is a volunteer role for a Board Member position at EcoAction Arlington. Board Members will be responsible for providing strategic guidance, overseeing organizational governance, and participating in decision-making processes to support the organization's mission. Responsibilities include attending board meetings, assisting with fundraising initiatives, and engaging with community outreach efforts. W

  • Leadership, strategic planning, and organizational governance experience
  • Fundraising, donor relations, and financial management expertise
  • Knowledge of environmental sustainability, climate change, and community engagement
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills
  • Passion for environmental education and willingness to promote the mission of EcoAction Arlington
  • Prior board experience or nonprofit involvement is a plus

You will be part of an engaged and committed group working to improve Arlington's environment. We interact with a broad cross-section of the community that includes Arlington schools, businesses, places of worship, single and multi-family dwellings, and our local government. We are seeking a wide range of points of view to equitably inform our work and deepen our connection to all areas of our community. We hope that new board members will bring their voices, skills, expertise, energy, and networks to the table to advance our work. 


Board terms run for 2 years and start in April. The application process involves an online interview with current board members. New board members are voted in by EcoAction Arlington members at the annual meeting in the spring. Board meetings are held online every 2 months except during the summer. Membership also involves donor outreach and occasional in-person events. A passion for the environment is key. EcoAction Arlington board members can live anywhere in the Metropolitan DC area.
