About the Position:

ECA has an immediate opening for an experienced BESS Project Finance Director to lead our analysis of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) development opportunities. The BESS Project Finance Director will report directly to the Chief Financial Officer and work closely with the Chief Executive Officer, colleagues within the Finance Department, and members of the Development and Operations teams.

Primary Responsibilities:

Build and maintain financial models that inform decisions regarding investment in paired and standalone BESS projects

Analyze revenue streams (arbitrage, capacity markets, ancillary services, etc.) within various contract structures (optimizer agreements, capacity agreements, solar+storage (v)PPAs, etc.)

Guide ECAs outlook on forward curves in priority markets, factoring in state programs and pending legislation, and engaging with external consultants

Translate knowledge of BESS OEMs, service providers, and design tradeoffs (overbuild vs. augmentation, e.g.) into modeling assumptions and foundational pieces of ECAs BESS investment thesis

Engage with potential project buyers from bid solicitation through term sheet/contract negotiation and deal execution

Required Attributes:

Advanced coursework in Finance, Economics, or Engineering

4+ years of experience in renewable energy project finance, including 2+ years with a heavy emphasis on BESS modeling specifically

Fluent knowledge of electricity markets, including tariff structures, incentive programs, and their implications for BESS economics

Demonstrated deep skillset in financial modeling (Excel) and big data analysis (Power BI, e.g.).

Developers mindset: experienced in the markets current state and dialed into trends shaping the markets future state

Owners mindset: self-starter who is focused, detail-oriented, and eager to serve as a lead voice in shaping investment theses and executing on them

Strong communication skills, including the ability to distill complex concepts and advocate on behalf of viewpoints internally and externally (with potential customers and other stakeholders)

Passion for the clean energy industry and defining and implementing new standards, tools, and processes in a fast-paced/evolving company context

Preferred Attributes:

MBA, MA (Quantitative Field), or CFA

Experience at an IPP, service provider, or consultant responsible for optimizing BESS assets

Experience negotiating common BESS contracts (optimizer agreements, capacity agreements, solar+storage (v)PPAs, etc.)

Compensation:

ECA compensates employees with market-competitive base salary plus above-market variable compensation comprised, as appropriate for each position, of performance-related bonuses, transaction-based commissions, and equity-like rewards tied to company performance.

The base salary range for this position is $150,000 - $190,000, while your actual salary may be below, within, or above this range depending on your location and qualifications.
