The Product Stewardship and Sustainability Senior Engineer plays a critical role in advancing the organization’s environmental compliance and sustainability goals. This position supports the Electrical Sector – Americas (ES-AMER) group by developing and implementing platforms, processes, and tools that ensure product compliance with internal and external environmental regulations. The role also provides expert guidance to internal and external customers on chemical compliance and sustainability matters, and ensures that New Product Introduction (NPI) projects meet sustainability requirements, including Product Information Forms (PIF) and Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emission calculations.
This position is central to enabling the organization’s transition toward circular product design, scope-3 emissions reporting, and positive impact engineering, aligning with global sustainability frameworks and regulatory expectations.

Job Responsibilities
- Interpret existing and emerging product stewardship regulations across global markets and translate them into actionable product specifications.
- Apply Design for Compliance/Climate Change/Circularity (DfC3) principles to reduce lifecycle emissions and improve product circularity (recyclability, reusability, durability, disassembly).
- Implement methods to estimate and report scope-3 emissions and support Life Cycle Assessments (LCA) and Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs).
- Provide expert support to internal business units and external customers regarding chemical compliance, sustainability inquiries, and product stewardship documentation.
- Ensure that NPI and Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VAVE) programs comply with ecodesign requirements and integrate sustainability metrics into product development workflows.
- Support the development and deployment of product design tools integrated into the PROLaunch NPI process, enabling sustainability tracking and compliance automation.
- Collaborate with engineering, compliance, quality, and supply chain teams to embed sustainability into product lifecycle management and resolve compliance-related challenges.
- Champion Eaton’s sustainability commitments within the engineering community and contribute to the evolution of the Product Stewardship and Sustainability Center of Excellence (PSSCoE).
Education level required
- Bachelor’s degree (BA or BS) in a STEM discipline (e.g., Environmental Science, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering).
- Preferred: Master’s degree in ecodesign-related engineering or environmental science.
- Minimum: 5-7 years of experience in product-related compliance, sustainability engineering, or environmental regulatory affairs.
- Preferred: 7–10 years of progressive experience in product stewardship, lifecycle assessment, and ecodesign implementation within a manufacturing or engineering environment.
- Certifications:
- Required: ISO 14001
- Preferred: REACH, TSCA, , ISO 9001, SDS authoring, IATA/IMDG/ADR transport compliance.
- Deep understanding of regional and global product stewardship regulations (e.g., REACH, RoHS, WEEE, TSCA, Proposition 65).
- Proven ability to translate complex regulatory requirements into actionable product specifications.
- Experience with design-for-environment (DfE) and Design for Compliance/Climate Change/Circularity (DfC3) principles.
- Familiarity with lifecycle assessment tools, GHG emission calculations, and circularity metrics (e.g., recyclability, reusability).
- Proficiency in compliance reporting platforms (e.g., SAP/EHSM, EPR-reporting systems).
- Ability to support new product introduction (NPI) and VAVE programs with sustainability integration.
- Skilled in cross-functional collaboration and process improvement initiatives.
