Process Simulation Engineer - Modelica / OpenModelica
Company: EarthEn Energy
Location: Bengaluru, Karnataka
Job Type: Full-time
Work Mode: On-site
EarthEn Energy is a climate-tech company focused on decarbonizing industrial heat through advanced thermal energy storage technology. Our heat battery stores energy from renewable electricity or waste heat and delivers reliable, on-demand heat to industrial processes, helping industries reduce fuel costs and carbon emissions.
We are looking for a Process Simulation Engineer with hands-on experience in Modelica and OpenModelica to develop, simulate, and analyse dynamic models of thermal energy storage systems and industrial process equipment.
The ideal candidate should have a strong foundation in thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, and process modelling, along with the ability to translate engineering principles into simulation models and evaluate system performance under different operating conditions.
- Develop and simulate dynamic engineering models using the Modelica language and OpenModelica.
- Build models of thermal energy storage systems, heat exchangers, and related process equipment.
- Perform mass and energy balance calculations and model heat transfer, fluid flow, and thermodynamic behaviour.
- Simulate transient system behaviour, including charging, discharging, and changes in operating conditions.
- Analyse simulation results, including temperature, pressure, heat flow, and energy performance.
- Validate models against engineering calculations, available data, and expected physical behaviour.
- Perform sensitivity analysis and investigate the impact of different design and operating parameters.
- Use Python or MATLAB for simulation data processing, analysis, and visualisation.
- Document modelling assumptions, methodology, results, and recommendations.
- Collaborate with the engineering team to improve system design and performance.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Energy Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Hands-on experience with both Modelica and OpenModelica is mandatory.
- Strong understanding of thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, and mass and energy balances.
- Experience developing, running, debugging, and analysing engineering simulation models.
- Understanding of dynamic and transient system modelling.
- Proficiency in Python or MATLAB for data analysis is preferred.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical communication skills.
- Experience modelling thermal energy storage systems, heat exchangers, or other thermal/process equipment.
- Familiarity with packed-bed thermal storage, charging and discharging cycles, or high-temperature heat systems.
- Experience with Dymola, Modelica libraries, or equation-based physical system modelling.
- Knowledge of sensitivity analysis, model validation, and techno-economic evaluation.
- Work on real-world engineering challenges in thermal energy storage and industrial decarbonisation.
- Contribute to the development of technologies that improve industrial energy efficiency and reduce emissions.
- Work closely with a multidisciplinary engineering team.
- Gain practical experience in dynamic simulation, thermal systems, and advanced energy technologies.
Please apply only if you have hands-on experience with both Modelica and OpenModelica. In your application, mention the projects you have modelled, the tools used, and your specific contribution to developing and validating the simulation models.
