POSITION AND RESPONSIBILITIES

We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Environmental Planner to join our team. The ideal candidate will have five to 12 years of professional experience preparing CEQA documentation and hold a graduate degree in environmental or urban planning, or a closely related field. This role offers the opportunity to lead environmental review projects, mentor junior staff, and work on a wide range of complex and impactful projects across California.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Manage and prepare CEQA documents, including Program EIRs, IS/MNDs, and Guideline 15183 compliance checklists.
  • Provide subject matter expertise and strategic guidance on CEQA compliance for long range plans and development regulations, including general plans, specific plans, climate action/adaptation plans, zoning.
  • Manage and prepare climate action plans.
  • Coordinate with clients, agencies, and lead multi-disciplinary teams to ensure project success.
  • Oversee project budgets, schedules, and deliverables with a focus on quality and accuracy.
  • Mentor and support junior planners, fostering professional growth and knowledge sharing.
  • Ensure staff stays current on CEQA case law, regulatory updates, and emerging best practices.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE

Candidates must have:

  • Master’s degree in environmental studies, urban/regional planning, or a related discipline.
  • Five to 12 years’ professional experience in CEQA/NEPA documentation (CEQA required; NEPA experience a plus).
  • Strong knowledge of environmental regulations, technical studies, and planning processes in California.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with demonstrated success in preparing high-quality documents.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects, coordinate teams, and engage with clients.
  • Excellent organizational, scheduling, and budget management skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to work as a member of a fast-paced team.

Candidates must hold a valid driver’s license and be able to travel occasionally.

This is a hybrid WFH/in-office position. Successful candidate will need to be based in or willing to relocate to the Bay Area and work part of the week in office. D&B’s office is in the vibrant Piedmont Avenue neighborhood in Oakland, with numerous cafés and restaurants within two blocks.

SALARY AND BENEFITS

Salary dependent upon qualifications and experience. Expected starting salary + bonus range $100,000 to $150,000. Benefits include paid vacation and sick leave, health and disability insurance, retirement plan match, and professional development allowance.
