Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled chemist to join our team at DTU Energy in our efforts for the research and development of organic energy storage materials and their application in Na-ion batteries.

Are you interested in contributing to a new, more sustainable generation of Na-ion batteries? Join the section for Electrochemical Materials (ELM) at DTU Energy and take part in cutting edge research on the design, synthesis, characterization and performance testing of novel organic active materials for Na-ion batteries based on wood / lignin-derived materials. You will be able to work on discovering novel redox-active molecules, combining organic chemistry, electrochemistry while leveraging novel synthetic access points opened by working in close collaboration with the experts in DTU Bioengineering.

Responsibilities And Qualifications

We are looking for highly motivated and creative researchers holding a PhD in chemistry with strong experience in electrochemistry and energy storage systems (organic batteries / flow batteries).

Responsibilities:

  • Design novel organic active materials based on wood-derived starting materials
  • Synthesize and characterize redox-active small molecules and potentially polymers
  • Fabricate electrochemical cells (coin cells / 3-electrode cells) to test the performance of the materials in Na-ion batteries
  • Carry out advanced electrochemical tests on half- and full-cells
  • Collect, analyze and securely manage significant amounts of measurement data
  • Work in close collaboration with other researchers from the same as well as from vastly different fields.
  • Actively participate in group- and section level exchange of knowledge
  • Write and edit publications and contribute to other project deliverables

Qualifications:

  • You must hold a PhD in chemistry
  • Substantial experience in organic synthesis (inert working conditions, advanced purification techniques)
  • Extensive experience with analytical methods (NMR, MS, FTIR, UV/Vis, Raman, SEC)
  • Extensive experience in analytical electrochemistry (CV, EIS)
  • Considerable experience in the fabrication of electrodes and cells of energy storage systems (batteries / flow batteries; different cell architectures)
  • High motivation for the sustainable creation and handling of research data
  • Ability to work self-motivated and independently
  • Excellent team player and communication skills
  • Experience with AI tools
  • Expertise in working with / supervising students
  • Excellent written and spoken English

As a formal qualification, you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent).

Salary and terms of employment

The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. In addition, supplements can be negotiated in accordance with DTU’s salary structure for scientific staff: www.inside.dtu.dk/en/human-resources/during-employment/salary/salary-structures .

The period of employment is two years and the starting date is 1 November 2026 (or according to mutual agreement). The position is a full-time position.
