Senior Manager - Energy & Environment (Transport Industry)
Driving Force Ireland are seeking an experienced Energy & Environmental specilaist to join our clients team in Ireland. This is a Hybrid role but will be expected to visit sites on occassions.
The Senior Manager for Energy & Environment is responsible for developing, implementing, and governing strategies that reduce environmental impact, improve energy efficiency, and ensure regulatory compliance across the organisation’s transport operations. This role provides leadership on decarbonisation, net-zero planning, environmental risk management, and sustainable operational practices.
Key Responsibilities1. Strategic Leadership & Planning- Develop and deliver the organisation’s energy and environmental strategy aligned with corporate sustainability goals and net-zero commitments.
- Lead decarbonisation programmes (e.g., EV transition, sustainable fuels, renewable energy sourcing, modal shift strategies).
- Drive long-term environmental planning, including climate adaptation and resilience.
- Define KPIs and performance frameworks for energy consumption, emissions, waste, and water.
- Ensure compliance with all environmental and energy-related laws, regulations, and industry standards (ISO 50001, emissions reporting obligations).
- Lead reporting for environmental agencies, government bodies, and sustainability disclosures.
- Manage risk and ensure robust environmental management systems (EMS) are in place and continuously improved.
- Oversee energy audits, carbon assessments, life-cycle analyses, and environmental impact studies.
- Identify and implement energy-efficiency measures across transport operations and facilities.
- Collaborate with engineering, fleet, operations, and infrastructure teams to integrate sustainability into daily practice.
- Develop and manage environmental incident response processes.
- Act as the organisation’s subject-matter expert on energy and environmental issues.
- Partner with external regulators, local authorities, environmental agencies, and industry bodies.
- Engage suppliers to improve environmental performance and drive sustainable procurement.
- Lead internal education and training programmes on sustainability.
- Manage budgets for sustainability programmes and capital projects tied to energy and environmental initiatives.
- Oversee feasibility studies, cost/benefit analyses, and business cases for energy-efficient technologies and environmental improvements.
- Track and report programme performance to senior leadership and the board.
- Oversee accurate collection and analysis of energy and environmental data.
- Produce high-quality reports for internal decision-making and external stakeholders (e.g., ESG reports, annual sustainability disclosures).
- Use analytics and digital tools to identify trends, efficiencies, and improvement opportunities.
- Level 8 qualification in engineering, energy, or environmental management
- Extensive experience (4+ years) in energy management, environmental compliance, or sustainability within transport, infrastructure, or heavy industry.
- Proven experience leading environmental and energy strategies at a senior level.
- Strong knowledge of environmental regulations, carbon accounting frameworks, and energy management systems.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex, cross-functional programmes.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
• A postgraduate qualification in a related discipline.
• Experience with ISO 50001 implementation or certification and/or Energy Efficiency Obligation Scheme (EEOS) projects.
• Familiarity with public-sector sustainability reporting and SEAI PSMR requirements.
Salary €91,254 or slightly above depending on experience plus beneifts
